Had a session booked this morning on a RR in Essex for a power check. The chap I spoke to when organising it went out of his way to be helpful and accomodate me. He explained that he would not be there when I arrived as he specialised in the tuning side but that wouldn't be a problem.

I arrived early and was blatantly ignored by the guy running the RR. "No problem" I thought "He's busy and will talk to me when he gets a chance". However he continued to studiously ignore me so I decided to time it and see how long it took. After half an hour of me standing in their small(ish) workshop and being stepped around by this guy at least once I gave in and asked how much later he might be running on that particular car. "We're not" was the reply. I suggested that I was booked in for a certain time that had passed 15 minutes hence. "No you weren't. We're squeezing you in between this one and the next. This one will be done in half an hour" (news to me and his business partner).

Hmmmm.

My third and final question "How long will you need once you get started?" elicited the reply "Welllll, it'll take 40 minutes to strap it on because it's a piece of crap".

Hat. Coat. Door.

I gave his business associate with whom I'd booked a frank account of this and in fairness he was mortified and offered me a free RR session (declined). I'm not the first, it seems he's known for it. How big and clever. rolleyes

Poor Customer service loses more and more business.

Strange he thought he had to strap yours down. We didn't strap any of out 18 TVR's down when we ran ours through their paces recently.

Times like these that the name and shame really should be allowed - totally unacceptable that time and travel costs are wasted by ignorant morons.

Oh, I dunno. Anyone that wants to know who it was can PM me.

The weren't my first choice, in fact I'd never heard of them. The RR I wanted wasn't ready, their stand by man broke his and I was given the number sort of third hand.

Ah well. Off to Surrey Rolling Road next week.

Sorry to ask a thick question but why do people go on a RR and what do they want to find out other then bhp and torque.

In my case cloggy it's to see if the bhp and torques are as they should be.

If/when they prove not to be I can plan what I need to do about it.

I go on to check timing/power and to make sure it's not running rich or lean anywhere.
Flintstone, the RR wouldn't be near to the Dartford crossing would it?

Also used to help setup and running of car. I last went up to Cambridge years back to get my Turbo Mini fettled. Peter Baldwin, spun his magic, tweaked the needle of the SU carb and it ran VERY sweetly.

Oh and at the time it was 150bhp+ at the wheels. (pretty fun)

To watch your P&J being thrashed to within an inch of its life smile
Also, to establish a baseline figure for when you are planning mods.

Interesting .... if its the one near Thurrock I went there about 2 weeks ago and had a similar experience. I just wanted to know the rates and availability of a power run for my uprated 350i. I was treated with indifference by the guy there as they were all talking about a Noble. He was very rude and basically said that "it would be at least 3 weeks to book it in and only if they could fit in a car like that" Needless to say I voted with my feet and will not be back

Charlie, no it isn't just something that I came across, I think there was a link to it in "Engines and Drivetrain" a few months back. Like any website that's free to edit/vote etc its open to potential abuse, but with that in mind its a useful directory.
