Ferrari FXX Programme at Silverstone - pics and review
Discussion
Hi there,
One of the highlights of last weekends Racing Days event at Silverstone was the chance to see the Ferrari FXX Programme in action.
I have been lucky enough to have a good look at an FXX before, the Blue one in these pictures was on static display during last years Ferrari Concours event. The Blue car is owned by Rik Bryan who also owns the Team Modena racing team that competes with the Aston Martin DBR9 in the Le Mans 24Hr. For those of you that have heard of Rik you will know he is a huge petrolhead and has a Ferrari 288 Evoluzione amongst his current collection.
This is the first time I have been able to hear the FXX running and also the first time I have seen one out on track. The experience was unforgettable.
As you may already know there were 29 Ferrari FXX's made along with a thirtieth that was built especially for a certain Mr Schumacher. 8 cars had made the trip to Silverstone which is quite a low turnout compared to some of the overseas events but never the less a stunning site: -

I did get the chance on both Friday and Sunday to have a good look at the cars in their pit garages. The mechanics were very friendly and happy for me to wander around the cars with my camera. On Friday a lot of work was being done on the mechanicals of the cars with all 8 of the cars up on airjacks for most of the day. The cars were also polished from head to toe in preparation for the weekends events.

On Sunday morning the cars were all prepared and ready for the two demonstration runs that were timetabled for the day.

At around 9.25am the cars all exited the pit garages and lined up ready for the first event.

Once I had grabbed a few shots I headed out to the circuit to take some shots of the cars in motion.

Car Number 26 - I think this car belongs to Scuderia Ecosse and spends much of its time in Scotland.

I do like the FXX in Red although I have to say I think the Yellow is my personal favourite.

If you were not lucky enough to get to Silverstone at the weekend I cannot describe the sound of the FXX to you.
The driver of the Black car inparticular was really going for it on Sunday morning and managed a sub 2 minute lap with only a minute of the session left. A couple of people have commented that with the right set up and a professional driver behind the wheel these cars would easily be quicker than a GT1 car round a track.
The early morning session had been a bit misty and this is not the best weather for taking pictures. Luckily by the time the afternoon session had come round the weather was much better and I managed to get some shots I am really happy with.

Hope you like the photos and the review.
All I can say is Ferrari FXX - What a Car !!!!!!!!
Regards
Tim

Hello Tim,
Superb pictures!
I was there on Sat and Sun. The FXX demonstration was the highlight of the weekend followed by the 43 F40s parade!
Rik Bryan is a very busy man indeed. He told me the oldest FXX driver was 79 yrs old. Nice to see some people still enjoying their big boy's toys.
The turnout of 8 FXX's may be low given the 29 units (+1 for Schuey) but there won't be anything like this on British soil for a long, long time.
