I would have thought that the GT3 would have left an Exige for dead especially with all the straights on that track BUT i assume the driver in the Exige is more experienced.

I'm not sure how much experience plays into it when it's a straight out and drag race from a corner, "Any idiot can drive fast in a straight line". Obviously the way the driver comes out of the corner plays a big part but there are quite a few points where it does seem to be a fair drag race to the next apex!!

I think the gt3 was clearly faster on the straights, not by as much as you'd think but 265 ponies in a car weighing just over 900kg can't be sniffed at it seems.

Gawd Lotuses can sound shite, can't they? That Exige sounded like my food blender. Nice vid, though - some clean and healthy sparring that looked like fun for both drivers. Mind you, Exige guy surprised me by seeming well able to chuck his car around, but totally unable to handle a gearchange. Nice of the GT3 guy to hang on whilst he recovered from his moment.

True but if you look at any Track times, wither its the Ring or even Evo's Bedford track times, the GT3 beats the Exige by a good bit to be honest, not much in it when compared to a TT but the GT3 usually gives an Exige a spanking.

Theres a difference between an Exige and an Exige with an aftermarket supercharger and whatever else though. Incidentally, according to a mag article I read a while back, the Exige and GT3 are pretty much even through 1st and 2nd gears, but once the GT3 gets going in 3rd "its like the Exige has driven into treacle".

Exactly it i think, once you get to 70-80 mph plus, 3.6 displacement instead of 1.8 is going to show up a lot more. Seemed very apparent down the longer straights.

Sounds about right with any Elise - I used to own 1 and upto 60mph, it could keep up with allot of cars but after 90mph the sales rep brigade in A4s and 5series would whizz passed you.

May i add that that was with the old K-series engine, not sure what the Toyota sourced engine can do after 110mph,for some reason Lotus seem to stick with a 1.8 engine which is why it does sound like a food blender.

The for the "Food Blender" is that there is a supercharget 12 inches away from the drivers head. To be honest, even the Exise S at 220BHP is about 240 / tonne which is very close to a GT3. Given the fact taht Exige drivers can brake so very late, the margin is smaller than you might think.

my old honda powered elise was good for 160mph in sixth and used to hit 100 in under 9.5 to 10 seconds. for track fun there is not much that could offer the all round package of a played with elise (for the same kind of money) unless you want to trailer it there. Put a supercharger on the honda conversion and your talking silly performance. the gt3 owner should have pulled over and let the exige owner pass as i imagine he was getting frustrated - unless the overtake rule was not by mutual consent.

I came across a MKI Elise with an Audi Turbo engine in at Bedford GP circuit 18 months ago in my GT3... It was pulling two car lengths on me in a straight line (down the long back straight).. I was managing 146mph GPS speed according to my datalogger (around 156 indicated).. The Elises / Exiges are very quick cars when they have proper engines in them!

The GT3's from Switzerland (I guess the driver lives in the same village as I do...) and not overly familiar with track work and the rear enginged tool judging from the lines he chose and the how little he used the massive traction out of bends.

Unless that was 2 mates having a dice, the GT3 driver should have pulled over.

Big moment for the Exige driver.

As has been said above - an Exige / Elise with a powerfull engine is a great track weapon (especially for the money), but not from my personal experience such a great ownership proposition.
