Looks an awful lot like the one off my landrover to me. The stalk/clicky bit does too, except the landrover one has the bit the bolt goes through bent to about 45deg.

What's killed it Dave? One of mine would only 'reel in' and so was gonna replace it. With that in mind it didn't matter that I had a look inside to see what the trouble was. Turned out to have gathered some dust and debris which I cleaned away. End cap replaced and has been as good as gold since.

Bruce, how did you go about doing this? Mine have been rather problematic for a while now and was going to replace them, but would rather fix them instead.

Yes - it's a bad case of agressive reeling in and refusing to give the belt back again.

There seems to be no dust in the mechanism, so I put it down to beign worn in its old age. (remember there's 104k on the car)

try just tweaking the position of it, they're very sensitive to installation angle

I think it's more to do with the incredible amount of carpet fluff and grit that found its way inside the case! (I don't know how)
