Just trying to get a feel for how many people have not only bought a car with an OPC warranty but then renew it every year?

Or, have some just not bothered and simply go to indys' and cough up when needed?

Mine is due for renewal in a few months, and despite never claiming (touch wood!) I'm still tempted to renew for peace of mind.

I suppose - is it a valid peace of mind or "over-rated" ?

Do some people simply pay for the check and warranty and then get the standard servicing done at an OPC and then other work at an indy?

if you have an OPC warranty, why would you get a standard service at the OPC and then other work at an Indy? Just get it all done at an indy who uses OEM parts and the carries out the service as per the Porcshe recommendations. Warranty is valid in exactly the same way without the horrendous labour charges from the OPC smile

you can buy from outside the OPC network and still get the warranty on a car

Ah, thats useful - I think I've read that before somewhere. Someone pointed out that you may loose out on "Goodwill" gestures from an OPC if you went that way.

I know it's been mentioned a lot(!) - I was just wondering how many people actually do sign up for the warranty as opposed to agreeing it's a good idea but then not actually doing it.

Privately bought 996 with FPSH and now warranty, I service at OPC and get everything else done at my local Indy.

I was in two minds on renewal until last service when I had £3k's worth of work done, mostly on the engine, and no, that didn't include RMS! From memory there were a couple of oil leaks, coil packs, MAF sensor and so on so a fair chunk of cost was OPC labour.

Silver993TT, know what you mean about indy servicing but, for me, the unbroken run of OPC stamps combined with opportunity to build up a bit of a history/goodwill with my local dealer just swung it for me.

I get colchester OPC to service mine and local mechs. to do other bits, I would do all indy if there was a good one locally, mind you I think there's one in Coggeshall, its still nearly 40miles away, and a pain...

Just acquired my 911 on Monday.
One of the clinchers was the fact that it had a history of extended warranties.
Current one expires Feb 08 and I will be renewing.
I only intend to own the vehicle for a year so it gives peace of mind re: a big bill and it should help with the residuals on resale.

I have maintained a warranty since the car was new. Used it a lot in the first year due to teething troubles. After that I'm afraid I haven't wanted the risk of a big bill. Whilst I could afford to replace the engine and gearbox it would be quite a financial blow. I'd rather insure against it.

I bought my car 3 1/2 years ago from a non-Porsche main dealer. They included the 111 point check at OPC Reading and the resultant Porsche warranty. I renewed it twice until it expired this year. The car will be 10 years old in August so I couldn't renew it.

My guestimate is that service labour over this time has come to about 15 hours, so that's about £1000 saved in labour over the same charge from an OPC. That pays for 14 months warranty or a whole bunch of 'good will' from the OPC. However, the most important aspect of this approach is that I know the service has actually been done because I regularly pop in while they're doing it to have a chat over a mug of tea - something I couldn't do when I used to have my Boxster 'done' at the OPC.

I'm not convinced at OPC servicing that things like

a) oil filters get changed
b) spark plugs get changed
c) air filters get cleaned/changed
d) greasing/lube points get serviced
e) gearbox oil getting changed
f) diff oil
e) etc

I've seen these actually being done on my car at my specialist, with a detailed breakdown before and after about what is planned and what actually took place.

Just my experiences smile

I renewed my warranty today as I know if I don't something will break. It's under 3 quid a day so well worth it when you think what could happen. One of my relations was very kind and paid it for me which was nice biggrin

Just had to have the winder mechanism in the drivers window of my C4 Cab replaced today at Porsche East London as it's faulty. They've told me it's not covered by the warranty which doesn't come as much of a surprise and I have to cough up £450. It may be piece of mind engine-wise but for anything else it's a waste of time.

I have enough to worry about without the risk of RMS or big bang from some crunchy bits!

Full HMRC investigation ongoing... I just know what will happen if I dont renew... (and I have some insurance with my accountants to pay for the investigation work)
