As the title says really. I was tracking down a slow return to idle and noticed this was buried between the heads:

Does anyone know what the pipe is for and why it might be deliberately disconnected and blanked off? From the look of the pic it's been that way for some time. Idle cured with an ECU reset but I'm curious to know why this is like it is.

thats the hot water supply to the throttle body, which someone has very sensibly blocked off

There should be another pipe also capped off somewhere, which is the return from the body, it might be better to link these two pipes as help get airlocks out of the system

Top tip... As I don't intend to use her in sub zero temperatures I'll leave well alone then, I'm sure everything is plenty warm enough under there anyway biggrin

When I put the Act silicon hoses on I'll track down the other end and join it with a bit of copper pipe.

Thanks thumbup

It's a genuine TVR factory feature. There is no other pipe as TVR used the fitting for it to put the temperature gauge sender in.

I drilled & tapped the inlet manifold for a 1/8" BSP bung on mine, so I didn't have to have random bits of pipe kicking around.

The standard LR setup has a spigot pressed into the water jacket at the front of the manifold (which is where that pipe you're looking at goes), the return is to a T piece on the heater return pipe under the inlet manifold. My 4.0 (Chimaera 400 spec) engine used this setup.

What are you proposing to do with it if you find it? If the answer is nothing much, then I wouldn't bother!
