I have now had my Boxster S for about a month and I cant beleive what an amazing car it is. Its Guards Red with 18" Sports Design split rims on it. It really looks quite different from the usual silver or blue boxsters you see about.

The performance is perfect, the build is perfect, the handling and ride is perfect. Everythng about it is perfect. To top it all off I have just pulled an amazing looking girl who sits very well in the passenger seat!

I seem to get a lot of positive attention in the car. I havent had any kind of jelousy comments. I had 1 evil look when I got out of the car with my new girlfriend. The guy was probably jelous of the girl more than the car though.

I think the most attention I seem to get is from guys in their sliver 911's, I dont know what they are trying to convey by slowing down or pausing next to me at traffic lights, because invariably I cant see through their windows. Hopefully they are admiring it as I am their cars, and not taking the snotty 'thats not a real porshe' attitude.

Anyway, if they do have a superiority complex thats their problem and perhaps reading the following article will give them something to thnk about..:

Hope you mean SLIVER 911s and not silver.
I would have no comment to make about your car......... even if its another red boxster.wink
I would say you should stop worrying about what other people think and just get on with enjoying your car cool

Sorry to say this, but it sounds like you have the superiority complex trying to justify that you have a good car. Do you think there is some correlation between the new car and the girlfriend? The car does not make the man, whether you have a 911 or Boxster. Just go out there and enjoy whatever car rocks your boat. I have a 911, so what, the Boxster is a good but very different car. I dont think I'm better. There will always be someone with a "better" and "worse" car than you - also people like different cars(fact) and quite frankly dont waste your time worrying about idiots who look down on you because of your car. Just enjoy a nice car with this great weather of course with the roof down.

ps. mine is not silver......

Thats me telt.

Yep, that is the same as my car in the photo. Well done, best combo there is.

I have never ever seen another one on the road since they came into creation. So I will take yours' word for it that there are others around.

I am not one to worry about what other people think, I got over that as soon as I finished being a teeneager 10 years ago, I guess being in the car has given my image consciousness a second wind, it is hard not to consider what people are thinking when they stare at me, their opinion written all over thier face.

The only worrying thing I have noticed is that everyone Revs up their cars when they are near mine. I had some guy in a bmw 330 estate almost crash into a hedge, the back end of his car came off the road, because he revved up so hard as he turned into a junction I was waiting at. It almost forces you to think about what these guys are thinking about you. Do they want me to cast an opinion of them because they rev their cars up so I take notice of them? Guys in Impezzas are the worst, what do they want me to think about them? I dont know them, do they really expect me to think "nice car mate, a 1994 Imprezza turbo, thanks for revving up, I wouldnt have noticed you otherwise, I think you are cool". Cos I dont, I think "Twat".

Anyway. the whole point of this thread was to point out those factors about the 911 that were discussed in the article. I have heard a few times that the older 911's used to have dodgy handling but I didnt know why. I think the comment about how the fact that 'the engine is so far back that it acts to try and lift the front wheels of the ground using the back axle as a pivot' is really shocking.

The atticle the OP links to finishes by saying that if the Boxster was given a 3.6 engine and 4WD it would give 911 drivers something to think about. Yeah, they would be thinking where have the back seats from my Carrera 4 gone?

Hey, go easy on the guy. He has a smart new car and is as proud as punch of it. He even picked his username to tell us how proud of it he is!

I am guilty of exactly the same thoughts, and I only have a measly 944 to play with. (And a very pretty wife, but that's another story - besides, mine is not a soft top, so you can't see inside so well!)

Mr New Boxster S - Welcome to PH and enjoy your car. Remember, you will find people on here with MUCH nicer machinery, and MUCH less nice machinery (I am in the latter category.) But it's not what you've got, it's how you use it. Speed Matters.

The Boxster S is the finest purchase. I can't believe that you have to bring up the "real or not real Porsche" crap on your first post about the car. It's a great sports car. The only thing Porsches lack post-993 is an interior that feels sturdier and less Nissan like. Oh that and a dry sump.

Because I couldn't determine exactly how banal it was without reading it....!

It's hardly a smart move coming on to a Porsche forum and telling everyone that 911s are badly designed because their engines are in the back...

Go back to sleep. You are obviously having a bad day or are possibly frustrated with your life in general. Poor you. Go and beat your wife or something, get rid of some of that frustration.

When did I say anything about 911's being badly designed? 911's are my favourite car. Maybe I should have made that clearer earlier.

Dont worry about me, I can look after myself. I am not about to take any comments written on a web forum personaly.

Its shockingly sad how many people take all this too seriously. Trying to gain kudos by calling peoples posts boring, you're trying to gain attantion for all the wrong reasons, your not coming accross as the cool, synical clever guy you think you are, you're coming accross as an annoying little 'spare part' shouting negative comments into a discussion you are not invited to. Like an annoying guy in the pub, keeps butting in and moaning, has no mates because of it.

And dont make the mistake of thinking I am putting a large amount of time and effort into trying to come up captivating copy for you (and the fellow pistonheads readers) I am a very quick thinker and an even faster typer! This whole post has probably taken the same amount of time as you spent writing "boring post" or whatever (including the 5 minutes you spent desparately trying to think of something funny and clever to write, then fluffed it) If you cant read very quickly and get tired halfway through the posts, dont bother. Give up, your not needed here.

Thanks for the positive comments from you others. I am getting out in the car, trust me! 2750 miles so far and I havent even been further that 30 miles from home in it yet!

The only on-topic comment I feel I should answer is "...boxster..911.., then I looked round and wondered where the rear seats had gone". Or something along those lines. sorry.

This is quite an important fact. I mean, a 911 is one of my all time favourite cars, I nearly got one but the fact I simply dont need back seats made me go for the boxster. If I had children I would have definatly made the effort to pull financial resources together for the 911.

Oh and I had a Nissan Skyline before the Boxster. To the guy who compared the Boxster interior to a Nissan? You have to be kidding. The interior in mine pisses all over most cars I have been in. Its considerably nicer than my friends M3, my mates TT etc. To get anything better you are looking at cars considerably more expensive than the boxster.

I guess I also get a buzz out of the fact that the article puts the boxster accross very favourably. I was on a bit of a downer with the boxster because I had personally encountered the 'boxster is a poor mans porsche' attitude. My girlfriends boss has a 911 turbo, she was telling him about my car and thats what he came out with "the boxster is a poor mans porsche" jelous tt (jelous the girls with me, not jelous of the car!)

The writer of the article thinks the C4s has the reputation of "the finest-handling car the company have ever made", which pretty much sums up its credibility really. rolleyes

I too had a lovely Guards Red BoxsterS with 18 inch alloys last year. So there are plenty of them around. Great car and I had great fun in it. Now I have a 911 and I love it even more (it's not silver either).

Enjoy your car and let others enjoy theirs. If you post patronising comments on this forum, expect to get flamed.

NewBoxsterS,

As I said, be welcome here, it's good to have you on board. But I'd stick around a little longer before throwing insults like that about.

Just a bit of advice, nothing more.

Another bit of advice may be that if you are typing so quickly as to forget simple spelling and grammar then you need to slow down a little. Maybe engage your brain before your finger (and what a great maxim for life that is.)

Comments about interiors are interesting. Having recently driven a Boxster (not 'S') for 3 weeks, one of the most disappointing bits of it was the interior. I drove a new Polo to work this morning, and the interior of that shows the Boxster up in a very unfavourable light. (The interior of my 944 shows the Boxster up in an unfavourable light, come to think of it. As did the interior of my Mk2 Golf, before that.)

Then again, that's just an opinion. And I'm probably just a jelous tt, in a deeply inferior car.

Glad you are enjoying your car. Not too sure about your comment about someone going to beat up their wife, poor taste even if you are just jesting. You seem very happy with your new purchase and indeed the attention your girlfriend is getting you. I hope you continue to enjoy both! Just dont worry about the jealousy, either for the Boxster or girlie, you'll enjoy both so much more when you dont.
