Hi All

I was wondering if anyone had experienced similar problems to the ones I recently encountered when I traded my car in at my local TVR dealer.

Still stunned at the insulting price I was given ( a little over half what I paid for the car from the same dealer 12 months previously) I felt sure that there were no more surprises to follow. I was wrong. As I had taken the car out on a finance package I was told that, as in the past with Audi and Mercedes, all the details would be taken care of. However several weeks later I received a text from the finance company asking when I was going to settle the outstandling balance. Having sorted this blip out I assumed that everything was over. Oh No!

Just last week I received a letter from the DVLA asking me whay I hadn't taxed the car. On the date they specified in the letter I was no longer the owner of the car therefore I assumed no longer responsible for it as the dealer had taken the V5C form from me assuring me that, as with the finance, they would sort everything out. What was most alarming though was that I had taxed the car for a full year one month before I traded it in. The remaining 11 months tax were still on the car when the dealer took possession!

To add insult to injury the DVLA are now wanting to fine me £30 for failure to tax the car, which I had already done at a cost of £175!! Tax that was in place when I handed my car over to the dealership.

I will not mention the patricular dalership here but if anyone has experience problems similar to mine please feel freem to email me, my address is in my profile.

It annoys me that I have had to put up with this hassle and concerns me that a reputable car dealership can act in such a seemingly unprofessional manner.

All the best - Rippers

Man, thats crap!

Suppose there is a lesson here for all, if you want it done, do it yourself. These type of dealers have a nerve on them, but unfortunately they get away with it.

Sounds way too dodgy.

Hope you get it sorted.

What exactly has the dealer done wrong apart from forgetting to send off the new owner documents?

Fair point.... but I feel the dealer forgetting to send in the paperwork is pretty poor. They deal in cars and so I would expect them to carry out such a simple task with ease.

The DVLA have got back to me insisting I pay the fine. What I am really angry about is that they have already had £175 off me when I taxed the car in February and now want more money because of this error by the dealer in March!

I admit that perhaps I should have done this myself and by not doing so have helped this problem develop but from where I sit it seems that I paid to tax my car, the dealer "appears" to have claimed the road tax back and then neglected to send off the relevamt documents resulting in me being fined for failure to tax a car that I have already taxed!!!!

Madness - watch this space for developments

Cheers - Rippers

Have you sent a copy of the sale/trade in receipt to the DVLA?

Talking of dealers, I p/x'd a car with finance at an Audi main dealer a few months ago. Today I get a letter from the finance company saying that unless I settle the 'arrears' before 10/07/2007 then they will register a default against my name. Needless to say, I went f**king mental earlier on to the sh*tty Audi dealer.

I think it has all now been sorted out, but you don't need this crap. It's supposed to be their job to sort this stuff out, if I didn't do my job then I wouldn't last five minutes, so why should they get away with it.

Sorry to pee on anyone's bonfire but the responsibility to inform the DVLA about the vehicle being sold or traded in etc is with the registered keeper. Just as you would send of the log book and give the green slip to the new owner, you should send off the completed yellow section (notification of vehicle sold to motor trader) and hand the rest of the log book to the dealer.

Edited to add just noticed someone already mentioned this DOH!
