Hi all,

I have just bought a 2000 Tuscan a month ago in Dublin
It was serviced every 4k miles at Castle TVR and the service record is excellent

In the past week the dash constantly says

!Warning!

EFI Fault

and it keeps cutting out when i try to start it from cold. Once it's warmed up it seems fine.

Is this the Electronic Feul Injection?

Also in the past 2 days the aircon/heating and ventialtion fans don't seem to be blowing any air out.

I'm driving on the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead and then down to London in the morning and i wanted to know if it would be ok to drive it???

Thanks

And making a post it that's makes TVR, as a lot of ppl will only read there car model forum.

The EFI Fault on the early Tuscan dash is a pain in the ass. It's spiked by lambda sensors usually but unlike the later dashes where you can clear the fault, it just stays there so no other displays can be read.

If the car sounds/behaves OK - and you need to be a good judge of what sounds/behaves OK is - then carry on driving it and get the EFI reset at a TVR garage near London.

what exactly is a lambda sensor please.

The car does stutter slightly when i accelerate but never having driven a tvr before i don't have anything to compare it to.

The guy i bought it from was genuine and had a merc and range rover and certainly wasn't a boy racer and said any problems give him a call but he had never had the efi warning before ( so he said) i had 3 weeks fault free driving with it before it appeared)

Did it stutter before the EFI Fault came on?

don't think so. to be honest my first few weeks driving it were so exciting i didn't notice anything.
As i have the car a month now i'm becoming more aware of it. The fact that it doesn't seem to start very well from cold recently and the efi warnng is on makes me believe it is the fuel injection....could this be right?

OK, classic symptoms of what my early 01 Tuscan did. The lumpy starting would trip the EFI Fault.

I reckon based on what you've said sounding exactly like the way mine was, your car was showing signs of "I want tuning", the lumpy starting has tripped the lambda sensor (a probe in the exhaust that monitors air/fuel mix) and set off the EFI Fault.

I'd do the journey and be gentle on the car - get it looked at it while you're over here at somewhere convenient. There is always the risk with the "cry wolf" EFI Fault showing that a REAL EFI Fault might develop in the background but you'd feel that. Just be attentive to the car until the dash is reset. There are several decent indies in the north west after you get off the boat.

thanks, sound advice

I spoke to a guy in the workshop at castle tvr who said the efi warning was not a fault right now but an indication something might happen. The car was faultless when i bought it a month ago so i can't believe it has turned into a dog in 4 weeks. From looking around the forums it seems nothing out of the ordinary but i'm just a bit tentative being a new car and not used to it
Thanks!

PS can you recommend anyone near holyhead or someone i may pass on the way down to london please?

You would be lucky to find a TVR place near holyhead - was blowing some time itn he countryside up there as I arrived for the ferry too early, and I was driving 'THe ONLY TVR in the village'! I don't think they get many sports cars up in that part of wales.

Oh and a hint on the ferry - ask for the car deck as the ramp is a nightmare for low cars.
