What is it with TVR Dealers?

Popped into Castle TVR at the weekend. Admittedly they were short-staffed, but I wandered around for a bit, got a fairly brusque reply to my question about servicing, and that was it!
Last time I was in the TVR Centre in Barnet, a few years ago, it was the same deal.
You'd have thought that turning up in a 400SX, one of the rarest wedges ever, would generate some interest....

I had a negative experience with an independent this week.He was recommended to me by several people but took a week to do an mot & tune up, when I collected the car he said "As you were local & came in Ive done it, but Dont tell anyone ive done it I dont do wedges"....i wont be going back in a hurry. theres nothing like feeling like a valued customer!
Face it: any TVR older than a (new) Tuscan is just an old car to a dealer. They don't give a bollok that you might just happen to LOVE the car, as far as they're concerned you drive it because it's the only thing you can afford and they reckon they won't get a bean out of you.

I know who you mean .... but he is just SO busy... He always takes a while but was superb on my Griff. He said he'd check the 400SE over when I took it to show him on the day I bought it, but I foolishly opted for a jack of all trades next to my flat. 6 weeks and a £1k later for a head gasket repair and coolant pipe replacements, car is now with RT Racing and and I await another £3K bill for a whole lotta stuff that needs doing I hope in time for a trip to south of France next weekend. Great value from Richard, ultimately, but scary story, or what. Wedges may be easy to work on for those owners who have mechanical competence and space, tools, time and experience. TVR seem to have made the Griff and Chim easier to work on, so it makes sense if you specialise to do so on the model you are used to. It makes the job cheaper in the end too I guess cos you know the short cuts.
Well I have had good and bad experiences of both Dealerships and Indy's.
Barnet, was in the area and needed a new speedo cable for the wedge, waited for 20mins at their service desk before being asked if I was here to collect the Cerbera
and offered a set of keys!!!!!! Wonder how far I would have got before they realised they had given the car to the wrong bloke!
Gorners in Warrington, Excellent, courteous and showed a genuine interest in the wedge.
RT Racing, Richard certainly knows his stuff, but can be a bit pricey sometimes for spares.
David Gerald, never been to the showroom but have bought plenty of spares, always been very helpfull and delivered the goods within 24hrs!
Cicely in Preston, arrived in a Merc for a look at the nice shiney Sagaris, and all they wanted to do was flog me another Merc!

Clive I know the place and he said exactly the same thing to me when he MOT'd my wedge.
I took it as tongue in cheek as I could tell he's a sound bloke.
I reckon like said earlier he's just too busy for his own good.
Im going back co's I trust him, and have seen him give advice and help for free on occasion, he's a top bloke but short on time.

TO say that he took a week to do a mot and tune is a bit misleading, I doubty very much that he didn't have other cars booked in for work to be done.I bought my wedge through the TVR centre in Barnet and i have to say that both Martin and Mark who are the new owners have been fantastic to me,they even let me use their ramps on saturday mornings [if it's quiet] to do some work on the car which other wise i couldn't do.......now how many dealers let you do that...!!!!!! the only charge was some cream cakes and breakfast from Mcdonalds big

Never had a problem at the TVR centre Barnet with my Chimaera, and they always took an interest in my previous 400SE. Maybe a 'little' more expensive than some indies but they provide a great/friendly service.Last time I was in the TVR Centre in Barnet, a few years ago, it was the same deal.
