Following on from the thread about servicing and getting your bike washed I wondered .. is there a right way or a wrong way to wash a bike?

Last time I jet sprayed mine and that seemed OK but is there any damage I could do and is there a more appropriate way to care for my baby?

I jsut spray a load of gunk off on and chuck a bucket of water over it - take it for a blast to dry it and then give the bodywork a bit of a polish.

Jetwashes aren't great for sealed bearings etc.

Put it on some paddock stands, spray the oily bits with degreaser and leave it a while. Clean the bottom of the bike first - usually the muckiest bits.

I use a jetwash but am careful to only spray from front to back - ie the direction of rain on a moving bike. That way you don't fill your exhaust or spray your clocks/electrics.

Dry and polish, lube the chain and a quick spin to dry the brakes - otherwise they dry on.

I always use bike cleaner spray, then wash off followed by sponge and micorofiber wash cloth. dry off and wax. do the chain as well. and used scottoiler spray. after a few thousand miles throught the winter the bikes nice and clean and it good nick.

only downside is the engine paint but as said before it the heating and cooling of the engine plus all the crap that gets ont he bike

Castrol Greentec is the best spray cleaner I've used and only £6.99 a litre from M&P. Kind to the environment too - if you're that way inclined wink

Don't do it. I washed mine once and it promptly broke down.

But in your case, any loose dirt is brushed off by the shrubbery :P

Be careful of the radiator when using a jetwash - it's easily damaged, depending on your type of bike.
