Hi All,

I'm off to Germany next weekend to see my girlfriend who is working out there currently. Am meeting her in Walhausen (just East of the Luxembourg border) on Saturday afternoon, and am planning to eurotunnel it in the morning, and then drive through France, Holland, Belgium, Lux and then into Germany.

Anyone have any recommended routes to take in some more interesting roads vaguely along this route?

She's got the Sunday off somewhere around there, and then I'll be driving her into Luxembourg on the Monday before heading home. So, again any recommendations on places to see around these areas would be great too.

(Yes, I know it's a long way to go for 3 days, but am getting bored of flying out to see her!)

First time I'll have taken the 'new' T350t to the continent, and am really looking forward to it. We did a weeks driving the north of France in the Chimaera a couple of years ago and it was fab.

I've had a check of the legal requirements for all the above countries and all seems to be fine - i assume you don't need special road passes like to you do for Switzerland?

Has anyone actually bothered to use the headlight covers/converters on a T350? I did on the Chimaera but I wouldn't know where to start on T350!!

All and any recommendations/comments welcome.

Ropey smile

very simple. head straight for the nurburgring nordshleife. lovely scenery and the greatest one-way stretch of road in the world, all yours for 10 Euro or whatever it now is. The only problem is that you'll be enjoying the track so much you won't notice the scenery.

Thanks for that one! But that's over on the Eastern side of Germany, which would mean a bit of a trek on Kate's on day off. Not sure she'd be up for that one!!

Anything over the near the LUX border, or indeed en route from Calais?

'ring is a defo. Its not really that far east, probably more west in fact and also not that far from Spa. Check the racing calendars for both and you might catch something good.

Always something good at the 'ring though. Even the car park is good when its full!

Sorry, I am a muppet! I thought Nurburg was near Nurnberg!!! Doh! silly

Your absolutely right - it's only 62km from where I'm meeting Kate on the Saturday. Hmmm, could be doable. Or if I make good time, I might 'pop in' en route.

Thanks for the suggestions. smile

Seems that "Piesport" is about half way too and being a PHer you'll have to dock there! smile

(Pies-port or Pie-Sport? Which ever it is sounds a good place for lunch!)

Most of the roads on that stretch of map look quite interesting!! Some nice hairpins going on. smile

Hmmm, might need some new tyres by the time I return!! smile

(Little fact I've found out - did you know that it is ILLEGAL to run out of fuel on a Germany motorway!! Nice!!)

The roads that run from the autobahn and then East to the 'ring are the best in the world. Piano smooth and fantastic twisties.

Found a location map for you but think its outta date as Im sure the A1 now runs further south and connects to the rest of the Autobahn network. Maybe wrong though, I went 3 years ago.

This is just getting me more excited. Still got another week and a day to go! frown I do hope the T350 behaves herself up to and including that weekend!

I meeting her (and I think we're staying the Sunday) near Zell - which you can see on the map above (thanks hugoagogo). That long yellow twisty road just above Zell looks interesting.

Then on the Monday, I think we will take the scenic route to Lux.

I may have to limit the driving on Sunday though, as Kate has been touring for the last 6 weeks and may be a little fed up of sitting in vehicles!!

that twisty road follows the Mosel river to Koblenz - the smaller roads off it to either side go up over the mountains to each side

that main might well be full of slow moving buses and stuff but the whole Mosel area is ideal for a romantic trip with the missus, loads of vinyards & wine tasting etc, take a boat trip maybe

it's a really nice area, have fun
look on google maps for zell mosel, germany

btw, the A1 still stops dead (with roadworks) just near(ish) the ring then starts again down by the A48

All good stuff - thanks. Should have some time to do that kind of stuff on the Sunday - we may accidentally go the scenic route!! wink

Anyone have any comments about headlight deflectors on a T350? I worked it out on a Chimaera (easy to see the bits to mask) but on plastic lens that are 4-6 inches away from the actual light AND at an angle??? confused

Or should I just not bother?

We're taking the T350 over there first week of July - Munster Castles, then down to Cochem (on the map shown on this thread).

Trier is very nice. The whole area has great driving roads.

Cross from the south coast (undisclosed disembarkation point) to Upper Normandy
then make your way head inland towards St Marie Eglise
Then on to Paris
Head north west to Trieste and into Germany just south of Koblenz
