This is my first summer of Chim ownership, its great, loving the sound when the hoods down!!! Thinking of gettng a cherry bomb.

At the start of May the Chim had a 12000 mile service at Kerridges. As with the past work they have done, they provided a very professional service and had loads of time to answer questions afterwards. Excellent customer service. The car fels compleatly different.

They highlighted an emerging problem that the engine mounts are slightly weak and will need to be replaced in a few months time. The job is going to be booked in this week and I dont really have a clue about the mechanics of the car and have a couple of quick questions: (Sorry if they are totally stupid!!)

Has anyone ever herd of these breaking? If so does the engin just fall out?

How long do they take to replace and how much shold i be expecting to pay for the job?

Thanks for your Time.

ACB.

ACB,

I was told about 6 months ago that I needed one (or was it both?) replaced and the engine has not fallen out yet! Not sure what will happen but I was told at the time not to worry to much about it but it will need to get it done at some point! From memory it's a couple of hours labour + parts, I think it was £165 but can't remember if that was for both or just the one?

Going to get it done on it's next service which is in a couple of months.

Cheers
Neil.

Had mine replaced twice according to my records not whilst ive owned it.
The car is 11 years old with 53k on the clock.
Can't see the engine falling out more movement i would of thought potental banging/knocking or breaking something else as a direct result i guess.

Serp Engines can lead to catastrophic failure... Pulley grinds thru swirl tank, water escapes, angine lets go... Been reported a couple of times IIRC.

Me pre-serp too biggrin The point was to watch out for any signs of grating around the swirl tank neck BTW. Check out Phils tales (VictorMeldrew) ~ pretty sure he had this kind of problem IIRC.

Got them changed last weekend, piece of mind for the summer, car seems to be alot tighter and there is less engine noise now.

Great job by Kerridges again.

Need to take care that the stronger engine mounts are used.
