[quote=97octane]I'm amazed they took it to 6,500 revs. Mine sounds desperately strained at anything above 5,000, so I just don't go there. Standard 500 motor - I was always led to believe it was all over beyond 5k revs, is that not the case?

I had 308bhp and 315ft/lbs on a(faded Rosso Pearl) 97 griff I bought last year. Also noticed extremely quick pickup and a couple of other things made me suspect it wasn't quite standard. It looked bog-standard, even down to crappy ignition leads etc.
Eventually spoke to Shane at SFR engineering who had looked after it for the previous 6 years and he told me it had an up-rated cam and gear, full stainless pipes with de-cat and 'a little trick' he does with the cam timing on really strong engines that he flatly refused to divulge in case I told Paul at Austec!
Turns out Shane was a factory race engineer before he went on his own in Manchester.
He also told me under no circumstances to put Mobil-1 in any RV8 and that 10-40 MINERAL changed every 3000 miles or 6 months is the best lube option.
Was a bit of an eye-opener at the time but all made sense later.
Re-painted the car nightfire and sold it on at small profit to a guy in Bournemouth who is a pilot and now cherishes it.

It would be good to know whats going on in this engine. The BHP is good, but comparatively the torque is low, although this is only the peak figures were talking of here. You definately wont see a 20-30 BHP gain from just smooth pipes and a K&N(very small gains on it's own) ,so i wonder what else is in there
