Got my summonds for 103 on A3 ;-( bugger.

Amongst the paperwork is a 'statemet of means' form. On it it says that if yu state how much you've saved towards the fine, the magistrate will look upon this favorably.

My question (to which there's no answer on the form is how much should I say I've saved? £600?? What's the concensus on savings? The more you have the less likely a band but bigger fine? Or am I just hoping?

Is it better I say this so as to avoid ban? Or am I doomed to be banned? Any idea what the norm is?

Which, tween a ban and a fine have the least affect in the long term, on insurance, car hire etc?

Any opinions appreciated, before I send the form off.

Long term effect will be points, not the fine.

So IMHO the more you can pay towards a fine, the better. I'd rather take 3 points and 350 quid than 6 points and 150 quid (I'm really guessing about the figures mate).

Cheers,
Wim

Just out of interest (as I occasionally drive the A3 at speed!), what method of revenue collection got you? Gatso, Vascar, mobile laser?

It's a trick question. The more you save, the more you can probably afford, so the bigger the fine you get. If you are poor and cannot save anything, even £100 can be a harsh penalty - so the theory goes.

In general, don't boast about income, ALWAYS round it down, within reason, it keeps the total fine down.

Bans at this speed aren't as common as you think. Read all the previous threads on how to behave to reduce the risk of a ban. At 103, presumably in 70, shouldn't be too difficult to keep licence.

Sorry re lack of info.

It was Vascar near Liphook (A very popular place on account of them being able to hide out of view). Limit was 70.

It feels strange. On the one hand I a tad ashamed as over the 100 is really frowned upon as oopose to say 45 in a 30 past a school.

I'm also effing anoyed, since whilst they've taught me a lesson, over 50% of the vehicles I've seen today on the motorway are doing 80++.

Not to mention the dozens I've seen on the phone!

I'm not bothered about a big fine if it means no ban.

How big can these fines get? Is there a max?

As far as I remember the max fine is £1000.
If this is your first time caught at this speed, do whatever you can to avoid a ban. First time I got banned was for 102 in a 70. Got 21 days and £250 fine.
Next time was for 102.6 on motorway, got 3 months and £200 fine. Got the longer ban simply because of my previous one and I guess I got of lightly.
Cannot stress enough the benefits of getting a solicitor who is good at these types of cases. It gets rid of the guesswork and gives you the best possible chance of getting the lowest penalty. Well worth the money and will pay for itself in the long run.

i ended up with £300 fine and a 21 day ban. Didnt provide any means info at all.
