was there ever a Porsche sports exhaust (with sensor and all) but without a switch on the dashboard?

Hi

The switch comes in the kit but alot of people do not want it fitted as it is more money as it takes some time wiring it in and also why would you want to turn off the exhaust you just paid £800 for....

If it was me i would want the option..but thats just me.

I believe it was only fitted on cars from 2002 onwards - my 2001 996 had a PSE but no switch and no option for one either.

Yes there was that option - i have it.

The noise still used to cut out at 30-44mph, but i have had the valves clamped open so now i have the glorious music on ALL the time

I got PSE fitted to my '99 about 6 months ago , OPC's in general won't fit the exhaust without the switch , most likely cos they can make more money on the extra man hours involved in running the wiring to the switch.

I always understood PSE to be exhaust and switch .. All or nothing (I may be wrong..) , but it can be fitted switchless if you get it done at your local indies.

However , having the switch will boost re-sale , and it comes in handy when arriving home late at night (or heading out very early). Keeps neighbours/ wives and kids happy!

ok

my question mostly relates to when one buys the car new. Looks like they offered it without a switch in the beginning, and then added the switch option.

Is it too loud, on those cars that don't have a switch?

I had the PSE on my 3.6 996, without the switch.

It was never a problem and, as the default position with the switch is 'on', I would never have used it.

PSE isn't 'loud' and never intrusive - but always sounds gorgeous. Should have been standard equipment on the 996 as it transforms the quality and character of the car.

No tony , it's more 'burbely'.. (sorry , not a real word!) below about 2500 rpm , but I have to say , I was very conscious of the noise compared to my old exhaust , when having to head to work at 4 am .

It's certainly not deafeningly loud , and may even be too sedate for your taste.

There's plenty of after market zaursts out there , you should have a listen to as many as you can , and then you can decide what suits you best. Some of the exhausts I listened to were very harsh and almost 'tinny' at higher revs , but some folk just love that sound.

My 2002 C4 has the sport exhaust without the switch. Bought it used so assume the owner who had it fitted either used an indy or told the OPC not to fit the switch. IMO the exhaust isn't that loud, certainly never caused me to think oooooo I wish I had that switch.

I have never had a problem not having the switch on the roads. I do not find the noise overbearing and you can keep it relatively quiet with regulation of the right foot when required ;-)

Wished i had a switch at Bedford after failing static tests, but always pass the drive-by which is the one that matters.
