I've used all my chill-pills & I'm still not calm.

My bank have just stiffed me for refferal charges which have been debited (without notification) for going OD by 50 quid for two days. So, I'm going to close my accounts. I am with NatWest.

Can I have some recommendations for alternatives please?

ETA: Doh, just seen the sticky at the top.

How much did they charge you?

It it was a 'reasonable' amount, then they are within their legal rights - and moral ones too I might add.

If not, you can complain and get it refunded. If you vent your anger on them and threaten to take yoru business elsewhere, they will back down.

At the time, I had a lot of money in other accounts on tap, wanting to charge me 88 quid is, in my opinion out of order. The interest I owed (all 50p of it I have no issue with).

time for a brief story...a bank (westnat) did that to a friend many years ago. they refused to refund the charges, and like you had something like £100k in the other account.

so to get revenge, he went to the bank, and asked for £25,000 in cash. which meant they had to get securicor in to drop off the cash. they then paid it to him. he went next door to the coffee shop, had a drink and then paid it all back into the same bank and after he watched securicor come out and collect the cash, he went back in to draw it all out in cash again.

at which point he was collared by the manager. he made it very clear to the bank manager that if he didn't get his £35 back, he'd move the whole lot to a new bank.

they gave him the £35 quid back.

Too right smile I left a message for the manager of the business accounts (not the account with the issue) & he reversed the charges - no problem. NatWest have this funny arrangement whereby the manager (business account) is in one place but my personal branch is in another. To be fair, the business manager is really good.

Anyway, happy ending.
