Hello all,
I finally took the plunge and picked up my Boxster from the Porsche Centre in Glasgow last weekend.
I live in the Peak District so am looking forward to some fantastic summer motoring.
The car is great and the Glasgow OPC were brilliant - really friendly and I got a decent discount off the Boxster (05 plate 2.7) with a great trade-in price agreed over the phone for my BMW 1 series.
The car came with all the usual 'Porsche Approved' benefits + full tank of fuel + full year's tax (most OPCs were only offering 6 months) + other bits and bobs like some spare oil, paint stick, new key fobs etc etc.
I could bang on for hours about how much I'm enjoying the car, but to cut a long story short I would be interested to hear what fuel economy other owners are getting.
I've done about 600 miles so far, mostly on 'A' roads with 30 - 50 speed limits (and loads of cameras!).
The on-board computer is giving me a reading of just over 38 mpg with an average speed of around 36 mph.
That's better fuel economy than the car I traded in, a BMW 1.6 family saloon.
I'm struggling to believe the computer as I had expected to be hit in the pocket by the fuel bills compared to my previous car.
Is this normal fuel consumption?
Cheers.
ps - if anyone knows of any recommended Porsche specialists in the Derbyshire / South Yorkshire / North Nottinghamshire area pls could you let me know? I live midway between the Sheffield and Nottingham OPCs but will probably go to a specialist for tyres etc.

Try Millbrooke Cars in Sheffield, they look after my 996 and they are superb (all ex Porsche sheffield techs).

I have a 986 3.2 S Boxster. On the motorway if I feather the throttle I get 31-32mpg. If I drive about like a granny on other roads I get 28mpg. Real world driving: 24 to 26 mpg.

The 2.7 always did get better fuel economy and yours is a 987. Its a little hard to believe that its 10mpg better, though.

Reset your computer. Then go for hoon. See what you get then.

On track I get 11 to 13mpg - can't quite get it down to single figures. winkhehe

It's probably lighter and lower drag than the saloon, why not? You can get 40mpg out of an elise driven gently.

and compare what the OBC says to the petrol you're actually putting in over the miles you're driving...

I think that has to be wrong, I get 23mpg round town and 26-30 on a motorway run in my 'S'... 38 just sunds too good to be true!

How many 'miles to empty' do you get on your trip computer from a full tank?

While we're on that - when I picked up my boxster it only had half a tank of fuel and was told that this is Porsche policy now! Ridiculous penny pinching when I've just given them £50k!

Next time you fill up, note how many miles you did and how much fuel you put in then work out miles done / litres in x 4.546.

Computers can sometimes be way out.

I get an average of 32mpg (2.7 986, pre-facelift) on mine but have seen up to 40mpg taking it easy on motorway runs. Pretty impressive for a sports car if you ask me.

Using super unleaded increases the mpg (and performance) for me.

Same car here, much the same mpg, although mine can get lower on the commute if I get a run of bad mornings - 15+ minutes queuing for a roundabout on a 12 mile drive does not do wonders for the economy.

I have a Cayman 2.7, and yes, in gentle A & B road running it seems possible to get well over 30mpgs.

My usual mix of urban (not in heavy traffic though), m/way and rapid A road stuff gets around 28mpg according to the car - but its still pretty new and expect this to improve.

The computer is pretty accurate in my experience, though it seems to like being left to average itself out over time vs. say over a single journey.

I've a 2.7 987 and do a mix of town and single/dual carriageway to/from work and using V-Power seem to average 27-28mpg, oddly I seem to get better economy from ordinary Shell, and right now I'm trying a tank of Total Excellium to see how that fares (sorry despite all the "you can afford a Porsche" comments fuel aint cheap so if I can get more MPG I'll try).
