Nah, the cable went years ago. After being stranded in the yorkshire moors (beyond network coverage so couldn't call for help), at the dead of night on the A40, then oncce just trying to get out of the garage I dispensed with the cable!
No, this is a hydraulic system, which has been otherwise been a great improvement. Just occasionally it sticks, problem comes and goes. Tends to be only when I'm pulling away, because the pedal stays down for longer. May even be a problem with the pedal stop, maybe it just goes too far down?

Is there a rubber hose in the hydraulic set-up? If so this may be breaking down internally prevennting the fluid returning. You mentioned it seems to get worse in traffic, so maybe the heat build up is making it worse.
If there is no hose in the setup it may be worth changing the seals in the cylinders, as this is the easiest thing to do. Otherwise I would suspect that there is something more serious going on internally - which would mean and engine out job.

I would hope that it isn't that serious as all the parts are fairly new. It's been intermittent for some time (even on the old clutch), but always behaves ok when the car's in for a service so there's nothing to look at. Anyway, first priority now is getting a new expansion tank for the rad before I go to goodwood on sunday!

a) check that the master cylinder is nicely perpendicular to the bulkhead.
If not, the piston will wear the bore unevenly and can stick.
b) check the operation of the connecting rod from the pedal to the cylinder, make sure it stays as parallel as possible to the centre line - same reasons really.
What are the exact symptoms - does the pedal stay depressed? Does it come back up but only slowly?
