There have been a few posts recently about engine noises and a possible worn camshaft is often mentioned.

Mine 500 has just had a new camshaft at 31,OOO miles and the symptoms on my car were as follows :

1)Pinking under load
2)Misfire over 4000 rpm
3)Wouldn't pull over about 4300 rpm
4)Higher thann normal running temp - fans almost permanently on even on fast roads.

But no really strange noises although it might have been slightly rattly. In retrospect I think that the performance had been down a bit recently so I suspect my cam was already pretty well worn before I did a 600 mile trip with bugger all engine oil in as reported previously..... This finished it off.

So new standard cam and a noticeable difference in performance.

Hope this is helpful.

I thought your problems were little more than just camshaft?
