Tow Bar Fit Disco 2
Discussion
Got a major problem fitting a genuine LR tow bar to my Disco 2. On the offside fitting to the chassis rail there is no room between the petrol tank and the bolt end to get the nut on the bolt.
The only way I can see of fitting it is to weld it direct to the chassis which is a bit drastic. The proximity of the petrol tank (1/2"
would also dictate that the tank would have to come out to weld it.
Any ideas how to overcome would be appreciated.

I don't remember having an issue at all on that side - my problem was on the other side where I couldn't use a spanner and a socket as the hydraulic step was in the way.
From memory I bolted on the hangy down bracket that the towball attaches to, then I constructed the long arms, loosly fitting it all together, then I bolted it all up.
Which type are you fitting, the swan neck or the traditional type?

Thanks Dan. It's the traditional type with an adjustable tow ball plate.
I had no problem with the step side as the tank is actually recessed there to allow plenty of access. The offside was just too tight.
I popped down to my indy yesterday and he loosened the tank bolts and levered the tank over till he had enough room to get the nut on. Quite common on the Disco 2 to have to do this, evidently. Took him about 30 minutes from start to finish and without the use of a ramp as all his were taken. He just worked under the back of the car like us rampless folks do normally. He did of course have his air tools so the nuts were much easier to undo and do up.
Anyway, all sorted now and ready to tow.
