I've broken Kylie
Discussion
I lost the back end this morning in the rain and did a 180 degree spin.
Unfortunately a kerb, a road sign, and a stone wall got in the way - I was only doing 35MPH !!
Despite the drivers door/front wing hiting the posts of the road sign the (side) air bags did not deploy,
I have 5 stitches in my fore head to testify to that !
I have damage to the steering, suspension, front lip, drivers door, front wing, rear wing, front wheel, sill cover etc etc
I have spoken to my insurers ( a large african mammal ) and they are going to get it recovered to a local approved repair clinic.
So...... how available are all these bits going to be?
Should I insist it goes to Gr33ns or Picalows?
Will I be in a crap hire car for months and months?
Will she ever be the same again?
Sob sob
PS AP's dont work when your going sideways !!

Sorry to hear that... hope your head doesn't ache to much!
Regarding brakes and spinning.... Not many know this bit when you are going backwards and not in reverse (like a spin) the ABS gets all confused and stops the brakes from working!
How do I know? From the drift day of course (luckly!)

How far out did you get it to spin?
I like to "play" with mine (with traction on!) but always seem to rely on traction getting me out of "over" over steer situations. My previous car was 4WD Turbo JAP CR@P but once (without the traccy) i managed to get that facing a hedge and a several thousand pounds of damage VERY quickly. I've always thought of the monaros as being quite predicable - maybe not eh?

Really bad luck.
If I was you I would get it taken to Picadors or Greens - Picadors have been great with mine.
Have to say that Racelogic traction control is a really good mod to stop this kind of thing happening - in the wet I use it with wet settings and its like driving with your mother in law in the back, it won't let you wheelspin! Maybe worth a thought when you get your car fixed up.

to anyone that believes that you need traction control to stop this happening drive to your capabilities and those of the conditions. I know spins happen even if you are not provoking it but 9/10 times it is due to going beyond the safe conditions.

Good advice, however regardless of how many times I tell the missus that the `ro` isn`t her Astra SRI she still drives it like one so with the racelogic fitted hopefully the three of us will survive the coming winter.
Also I`m expecting the launch control feature to do wonderful things for the 60 ft time on the strip.
Slightly off topic,
The beauty of Racelogic means you can go foot to the floor in heavy rain and put the maximum amount of power down safely.
For example I overtook a bus in second gear in the wet, foot to the floor - okay the engine popped like a nutter but no way would I have done that without the TC.
The TC gives a safety net in extreme conditions, and even in dry.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, I had an unfortunate event myself recently, and the insurers wrote mine off. In a way that was for the best, it meant quicker payout, and within 3 weeks or so I was in another 'Ro.
P.S. AP's aren't much good if don't have the opportunity to hit the stop pedal either!

sorry to be sounding aggressive but you are heading for a fall, fast. Do you brake knowing that ABS will save your arse or do you brake a little sooner with the hope that if you need ABS it will work? There will be a time where the traction control either isnt set as expected or perhaps just doesnt work that once. Just because you have TC doesnt mean you should drive foot to the floor. Its the volvo mentality - my car is safe therefore I can drive like a plank

Without sounding like a plank - experience Racelogic before you either condemn it or the driveability it gives, especially in the wet. Until you have (and Racelogic is not your average TC) you really do not know what you are talking about.
Wow slow down: I dont think he was talking about how good Racelogic TC is. He is merely pointing out that you should drive within the limits of the conditions and when you get it wrong the TC will save you --- not drive relying on the TC, this will almost certainly get you into some bad habits what happens on the day that the electronics fail and you have it nailed to the floor on snow or ice. Just a little common sense realy
