Hi all, my 4.5 has got the new type ECU which does not have the 9-pin D connector for PC connection.

I assumne the connections for the PC are somewhere in the ECU, maybe in the main connector?

Can anyone tell me these connections or how to connect a PC to this ECU?

If I can find the pins I'll solder a cable with a flying D plug to it.

Thanks

Andy.

Hi Andy I think this is the cable you need.

Oh thanks - I hadn't seen that. But the flylead only has two pins - surely it needs three?

RXD, TXD and GND?

On mine there is a two pin which is not used, but there is also a three pin connection which is used to connect to the laptop, it is the same plug as on the back lights.

Hmm I only have the flylead with the 2-pin connector.

So my original question remains: How can I connect a laptop to this?

Cheers

You'd have thought they'd need rx, tx and gnd but whats the betting the ground is coming from the metal plug at the PC end. You can get away with just rx and tx for short distances.

Have you looked inside the ECU ?

Course I have!

The 2-pin plug is, I think, for a TVR-supplied diagnostic tool.

For serial you need tx and rx, so you can reset the adaptives etc.

I would imagine the txd and rxd and gnd are available on pins of the 55-pin plug, I think I found that txd is 46 and gnd is 50, but can't find out what rxd is.

That from the website of a crowd that sell a logging tool for the MBE 970 ECUs.

I have drilled a small hole in the side of the ECU cover which allows a serial cable to pass through and connect to the pc serial socket on the ecu pc board. I needed to wittle lots of plastic off the serial connector to reduce the size so it would fit inside the ecu box. It turned out to be a very neat job in the end. I leave the cable connected and run it under the carpet and coiled beneath the passenger seat.

Yes, but my ECU does not have a serial connection inside.

However I think I've found the requisite pins of the 55-pin main connection that have the serial data, so I'll be making a cable up for it.

I'll let y'all know!

Sorted.

Pin 46 is tx data which goes to pin 2 of a 9-pin D-female;
Pin 45 is rx data, pin 3
Pin 12 is analogue ground, pin 5 and screen.

Not tested yet but I'm pretty sure that's it!

Got the data from the MBE manual for the 970 ECU.
