Z4 3.0l Oil?

A quick question, as I can't find the answer in the search.

2004 Z4 3 litre - what's the best oil?

I was going to go for Mobil 1 but my only experience with performance cars is a TVR Griff and for that Mobil 1 is too thin for the tractor engine it has under the bonnet.
I assume the Z4 is refined enough to use it, but what are your thoughts?

The handbook recommends BMW standard oil or ACEA A3, which doesn't mean much to me.

Mobil 1 0W-40 is approved BMW longlife 01 which the hand book of our 2002 525i states is required (I imagine a 3.0i Z4 is the same) and is going in it shortly, I believe BMW Dealers use Castrol of the same spec.

Personally I think Mobil 1 is utter crap, well over rates, I run Royal Purple road oils in My M3 and also in the race car, nothing else comes close IMO

Our cars have all been supplied with a litre bottle of Castrol SLX LL04

THe required standard is "BMW Longlife-01", and Castrol Edge was the only oil I could find that was to that standard. I'm not sure Mobil 1 last long enough to satify the standard.

Mobil 1 0W-40 does! Have a can sitting by me!

I'm with Mustard on this. We put Mobil 1 in our X5 Diesel as it met the LL04 standard.
