"For Sure"

Not sure if it's been noted here already, but if you listen to any of the interviews with any of the Ferrari team, they'll drop in the phrase "for sure" about 10 times.

I've not noticed it before Schumachers reign, but he used to say it all the time - and now they all do

For sure I'll pay more attention tomorrow to what everyone else says - although I must confess for sure that I've not noticed any other teams say it for sure.

Prevalent with all European racing drivers talking English it seems. They all had the same teacher.

Its either something they are doing to annoy the media or its an Australian thing....I have a friend from Melbourne who picked up the phrase a couple of years ago in Oz!!!

It's been going on for ever - it's an 'Aryan' thing ie common to natives of the low countries/Chermany and Scandinavia.

Anyone who uses it also has a fondness for Phil Collins and a hankering for a mullet.

I recall Senna using it a lot. Brundle has used it on occasion too

That all said - all the folks being interviewd at Lemons aren't saying it, so perhaps it's an F1 thing

The first I can remember using it in that repetitive irritating way, was Mansell - every sodding interview (for sure).

What about other motorsport language

"moment" = shit myself

"off" = crashed, usually heavily

"don't have confidence in the car" = cannot drive it

"un-predictable" = cannot drive it

"loose" = cannot drive it

"understeers" = cannot drive it

"its nervous" = cannot drive it

"i don't have a good feeling for the car" = cannot drive it

"struggling with the balance of the car" = cannot drive it

Typical statement. "i had an off on Friday, i have been struggling with the balance of the car, had several moments, it feels nervous. For sure the mechanics are looking at it but we will have to wait and see what happens on Sunday.

I'm for sure i've said this on here, but, Valentino "for sure" Rossi is one of the worst for saying "for sure". For sure!

I've noticed this. In fact I read an item in the paper last week where they quoted from Anthony Hamilton and even he, relatively new to Formula 1 and NOT with the Ferrari team used the expression.

I've heard Nikki Lauda say it - in the 70s. So it dates back a long time.

It's definately a racing driver thing. I know a few of the BTCC drivers and I've heard them all say it, even in normal conversation!
