Sunday afternoon and thought about a plug change on the Renault 19 just purchased. Used a proper deep reach socket and dispite all efforts cannot undo the blasted spark plug. Used huge force and wont budge, altho its gone so far just cant undo further. Also now the socket is stuck fast on the plug and cant remove that redface:

Wish I had'nt bothered. Any tricks I can use to get me out of this?

If you try tightening it you may find that the socket comes off the plug again, then you could try leaving penetrating oil in the plug well overnight or something? Most important thing is to keep the socket square and true on the plug, otherwise you increase the risk of rounding it or snapping the top off.

Good luck with it!

Got there in the end, phew. Had to take as much off the top as possible to expose or at least get nearer to the proble. Turned out that the socket actually jammed in the round entrance hole above the spark plug. Had to use a 16 inch crow bar together with the biggest and widest extension bar to twist and lever at the same time. After a further hour of torture it popped out.

Amazingly the socket was unmarked!!!

Thanks for help and support, pleased to say car is running now.
