think I've got a problem with the aircon...
Both of us noticed a couple of drips onto our feet whilst out driving today. When I got home I checked around the back of the PCM unit (at the top of the gearbox tunnel) and could feel a few areas of carpeting where I could feel drops of water.
Does anyone have any ideas how/where water could be getting out - im assuming its a leak in the aircon system, but just wanted some ideas before I chuck it in for a proper look. I had dye put in when it was charged up last.
cheers

If you're feeling dampness it's likely to be the condensate from the evaporator. It would normally drain to the bottom of the car and out onto the road via the drain holes. If the drain holes are blocked (common problem) the water backs up and overflows onto whatever is nearest.
A strong wire poked up the drain hole from underneath should sort the problem. Don't look up as you poke the wire - you'll get drenched.

Dave

Thanks for that Dave, sounds a bit better than what I at first imagined. Numpty question, but how many drain holes are their on a 996, and are they easily located? Hello
As far as i can remember the A/C system has 1 drain tube located passanger foot well pull the carpet back along the side of where youre right foot would sit against when sat in the seat....and you will see the tube (black in colour 90 degree bend with a cable tie around it) give it a squeeze and see if its full or not.....if so just get a bowl and drain it off in the footwell....then get some thing to clear the tube out like compressed air would work best but a piece of coathanger wire would do the trick too...just be carefull not to pierce the tube with it.

When you say "pull the carpet back along the side of where youre right foot would sit against when sat in the seat..." Is there an easy way to get the carpet up? A join is not visible (or I don't know where to look for it).
I've just taken the floormat up and the carpet is quite sodden under it!

Thanks very much for the pointers. I had a good go at it today, and once I removed the foam cover under the glovebox, I was able to pull the carpet back in the right hand corner and found the 90deg pipe section and drain pipe. Once I fiddled with it (technical or what?) I heard a glugging noise, and then looked under the car and noticed water dripping out -- Yay, success !
Something must have caused a blockage but it appears to be clear again now. Fingers crossed that's fixed it.
cheers to both of you - saved me being ripped off - it only took 20mins.
