wheel offsets

hi, if my wheels have an offset of ET23mm and i wanted to fit some wheels with an offset of ET35 does that mean i need a 12mm spacer or will the new wheel sit too far out already.
any help appreciated

Yep, a 12mm spacer will bring it back to standard but I wouldn't want a spacer that thick on my car; how about fitting a 5 or 6mm spacer and tweeking the suspension angles?

Jon, what sort of car do you have - is it trailing arm or A-frame rear?

Hi, ive got the A frame suspension, ive been considering the speed eight wheels from tvrcarparts or maybe modding some from a different car, merc etc.

Well the A frame is possibly a bit trickier than the trailing arm, because the tie rods are quite close to the inside of the wheel, so there is less space to play with.

I have tried an offset of 5mm approx for cerbie wheels at the rear. This drops the number of turns of the wheelnut on the thread from about 12 to 9. I wouldn't want to go lower than that.

Besides, at the rear it's pretty optimal now, because I get some very light rubbing on the outer wheelarch - probably only on the worst bumps.

On the front I need an offset too, there is some slight fouling of the inner wheelarches on full lock with the wheels on the ground (suspension dropped there is no fouling - so it passes the MOT!)
But I haven't got around to having some spacers made up for that, and the tyres have worn their groove now.

Adam, in truth it was from an earlier thread of yours saying about fitting cerbie wheels that gave me the idea, I’ve thought of trying to adapt the hubs from a Cortina with 4 x 108 PCD so I could fit either Peugeot of ford escort cossie wheels (both have a 25 offset), not sure which way to go really. Did you have anymore problems, arches not wide enough etc, I was also wondering if the 390se/ 400se front spoiler would fit easily, it would give me a start to flair the arches slightly, anyone any ideas if it fits?
Adam have you got any pics of you car, is it a 350i or one of the biggies?
