Right the penalty for having classic care plates (black & silver)on a modern car is £30 fixed penalty.
Already got the fine, what happens if i just leave them on and get pulled again, will it just be another fine and no other repocussions?

This is bearing in mind they have been on for two years and never been pulled before despite seing many police officers that just look and dont bother.
They are perfectly legal for a classic no mispacing of hard to read, etc.
Interested to know, Cheers in advance.

If you keep offending then the police will notify the dvla and they will remove that reg from your vehicle leaving your car with no reg.

Im not to sure how or where you go from there.I was told though that even if it is not a private plate they can remove the reg if you keep offending.

They will revoke the current number, cancel your tax disc, and re-issue the car with another age related number. If you are a repeat offender, they will more than likely insist on inspecting the car at your local DVLA office with its new number on the correct format of number plate before they give you the new tax disc with the new number.

So the cost to you will be the fine, having to get a new set of 'normal' plates made up with a new number. Then there's the hassle, and you will have to notify your insurer of a change of reg number, MOT ammendment, etc.

I guess your real choice is to keep your current number on 'normal' plates, or have a new number, also on 'normal' plates.

Thanks for the info,
Going on the past i think it very unlikely i will get stopped at all it was only because i was in very slow moving traffic and the traffic officer was behind me and we happened to be next to a layby. One of them guys appologised all the way through for giving me the ticket and hinted it was his boss in the car with him!

what would be the punishment in revoking a non-'cherished' number? why would anyone give a shit about losing it?

I guess you wouldnt really give a shit about losing the number, but there would be the hassle of sorting out all the associated tasks of changing to the 'new' number. Plus you wouldn't be able to use the car in the meantime, as you would not have a valid tax disc.

The hassle of having to get everything changed is a fair bit of grief.
In terms of the fine if you were to keep offending they can fine you up to £1000.

wooohoo, what is the car & colour? To help you decide wether to capitulate with the authorities or keep on running the risk, maybe the PH panel could advise you on whether we think it is cool or uncool with a classic style plate on it hehe

You may risk one or two more FPT at £30. if the same officeer sees you or other officers from that station that know the issue, you could end up being reported and summonsed to court for the offence. That would be a whole lot more expensive than an odd £30 ticket.

PNLD is not accessible for me at the moment. I will tell you the possible penalty when I can find it for a conviction at court on this offence.

Just found it!

At Magistrates court. A fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale and discretionary disqualification!!!!

If you continued to do this, you could well be disqualified from driving!

Fine up to level 3 on the standard scale - i.e. £1000. Might not need to be same or local officers, our ticket and summons unit will add a vehicle marker if the same vehicle/driver comes up repeatedly for the same offence.

Just ammended my original post. The offence carries an discretionary disqualification. He could get banned for continued offences!

Re your ticket /summons unit. That would only work in your own force jurisdiction and not in any other force admin unit as far as I am aware.

To be fair, I'd have just dished out a VDRS for this, if I saw you again with them on I'd be looking at maybe a fine etc but for the first encounter it seems a bit heavy handed to me.
