Hello all,

I have a 54 plate manual Gallardo with 9,000 miles on the clock and after a weekend away in the country i have noticed it's become very hard to put the car into reverse. At present I can still just about get it in but it takes some effort!

From searching posts on this forum it seems this is most likely the clutch having pretty much worn out, although if anybody knows of any of causes of this problem I would love to know.

My problem is (apart from the impending horrific bill to fit a new clutch) that I wanted to take it to goodwood at the weekend. Is this just crazy or do you think I should be ok for a few more drives without doing the car any damage?

Also, I was told by lambo manchester that this car had an "E series" clutch so I kind of suprised it has gone so quickly. I have owned it for the last 3,000 and whilst I have driven it like a sports car I don't think i have been too rough!

Thanks for any help

Was the last clutch changed under warranty?

I ask as im seriously considering buying my friends and its also a 54 with 9k, i had previously thought it was only 6k. How much do you expect it to cost to replace?

Highly unlikely.

it may not be extended warranty and still under lambo warranty. Are you saying that the clutch will be covered under lambo warranty.

Hi,
My clutch started to become difficult to engage gears, but i continued to drive it as i knew that a new clutch comes with a new flywheel. It lasted quite a while and @ times became easier to engage gears, (This lasted about 500 miles!) as the hydraulics seemed to adjust to the extra play!?
Eventually it started to slip @ 4000rpm, then just got worse and worse. Again over a period of about 300 miles!
In the end it was completely shot!! if you look at the photo you can see how "Blue/hot" the flywheel got!!!!
Ps, had the clutch kit not come with a flywheel i certainly would not recomend this actioneekeek
Good luck!! Might see you @ Goodwood!??

Hopefully picking the car up todaybouncebouncebounce
Missing it like mad!

I'm assuming this is another manual we are talking about? An 'E' clutch will have been fitted within the last 12 months, in all probability. And I'm assuming this was before you took ownership?

Certainly, an 'E' clutch is a strong one. If the fault isn't with clutch (or the way it's been used) some investigation needs to be done.

This isn't the first early manual we've heard about that is still eating it's clutches for some bizarre reason. scratchchin

I wouldn't take it to goodwood, you're clutch is likely to give up and you will end up stranded.

Covered by warranty....well on my receipt the Ts & Cs state that replacement "parts" are covered by a 3 month or 3,000 mile warranty, therefore I think you will not be covered :-(

Causes of the problem...hmmmmm....thats the million dollar question. Without stating the obvious; never hold the car on it's bite, do not ride the clutch -probably the easiest thing to do, get the car rolling before nailing it!

The E series clutch is supposed to be strong however I suffered the same problem with mine (and I know a few other people who have too) my advice is get the sinthered version.....there seems to be some confusion on what version this is called. However if you ask for it Lambo will know what you're talking about.

It's more expensive (circa £1k) and according to Lambo Bham isn't fitted on the G as standard but from my experience it is miles better than the E version.

Good luck.........

Dell. I'd recommend you have a Tubi fitted while the back end is off.

PM Jonny if you're interested. wink

I thought it was against the law NOT to have a Tubi!

Anyone without one (or something similar) should be banned from Lambo ownership if you ask me! biggrin

I'd resist Goodwood in your Gallardo - a suspect clutch and heavy traffic are not a brilliant combination...

Mornin' Micheal! wavey

No Tubi yet, though not due a lack of effort on Jonny's part! laugh

I think they sound awesome, and bit more mellow than the Larini (which is the full, piercing, entire F1 grid, experience).

I'm sure I'll get one eventually but my bank account is still recovering from the trip (full details of which are back on the LCUK forum).

Hi Mike,
Car has a Tubi already! But while i was there Harvey persuaded me to have it Decatted!!(Didn't take much to be honest!!)
So now i'm really looking forward to collecting it!!
Thought the Decat pipes were dear to be honest! 2 short lengths of pipe=£500 don't see it myself!!!!
But what do you do! At least i didn't have to pay for fitting!

Dell,

After only owning the car for a few months from Amari did he help with the cost of the new clutch?

Have you actually joined the Club and had some kind of acknowledgement from us?

If so, you should know your Membership number and will therefore be able access the Club's forum...

To do so, you will need to visit the Club's website, 'navigate' to the Forum page and send an email to The Moderator, who will open the forum for you and then, via the cunningly disguised link which reads 'Proceed to the Forum', you'll be in the not-so-sacred zone of the people you call The Old Guard - it will almost be worth all that effort, I'm sure!
