Theres a seal inside the door that was leakin in ma o2 plate golf. vw says its a really common fault. Check the plastic trim at the bottom of the doors when its raining, the water runs over that in2 the foot well.
worth a try?

check the trim that clamps the bottom of the windscreen on the outside. this is a suction type thing that may have come loose. the water ends up going through the pollen filter. It could also be leaves clogging up the drainholes.

Once you have sourced the leak, take the carpets up and leave up to dry. you'll prob need to soak up the water in the passenger footwell with towells. If it's like my A6, there'll be the alarm/remote computer things in the footwell that'll need drying out (+ remove any crap that may short the connectors).

Common problem. Mine sprung a leak on Sat night/Sun morn. Removed a cupful of water with a VAX. The carpet was soaking wet. It feels dry now though.

Not sure whether it is the drain around the battery/AC inlet or a door seal. Will give it a drench test at the weekend with a hose, with someone on the inside to see where it is coming in.

I cleared some debris from around the bonnet hinge underneath the plastic rain panel that covers the battery and AC duct etc.

The drain holes under the battery can block but it's obvious when you look at the battery, mine had 6 inches of water swilling about.

Another one though I found on a mates passat, the condensation drain is under the dash on the passenger side, tucked up high next to the centre console. Remove the glove box for easy access. On his the drain to the outside world was blocked, amazing how much water was coming out from there with the Climate Control on Auto!

Worth a look.

Cheers Scoop940. On mine it was the rear nearside foot well. I thought it may of been coming in through the vent under the seat, but I now think it is a door/window seal.

The Battery and surrounding area were completely dry.

Sorry, just thought £75 seemed expensive to pay for sealant. Mind you it is VW dealers we are talking about I suppose.

Just been shafted by my local vw garage.5.25hrs to investigate and reseal the pollen filter housing @£82 per hour,Totally disgusted by their overall performance any quality of interest towards the job. Thank god for my Tvr, the difference is the attitude of workforce.

Got a 56k service on mine to come. Have to have it serviced as it has a warranty. Don't even want to think about how much it will be. Belts have been done though.
