Belgians united at Spa 24 hours
Corvette goes for a patriotic victory
Although we’ve only just had two epic 24 hour races – at the Nurburgring and of course, Le Mans – next month sees another giant event on the racing calendar: the Spa 24 hours.
The event is part of the FIA GT championship, but is also open to other classes of cars.
FIA GT regulars PK Carsport from Belgium are aiming to make it a home win with their awesome C5R Corvette. The team is currently lying third in the GT championship despite running the older shape of ‘Vette.
Team regulars Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin will be joined by two past winners that also hail from Belgium – Kurt Mollekens and Fred Bouvy – under a new racing banner, ‘United 4 Belgium.’
The team has a new colour scheme for their attack on the race – and very nice it is too.
“Since the start of the GTs at Spa, no Belgian team has ever won the race” said driver Kumpen. “We want the Belgian crowd to support us and the other teams. Starting in front of black-yellow-red grandstands would be fabulous for us!”
The race takes place over the weekend of 28th and 29th of July.
