rude thoughts on 964?

Greetings Porsche folk,

A friend of mine is currenly having dirty thoughts on a 964, no specific model in mind, on a budget of 14-17 grand. For that budget looking at the classifieds, theres no real shortage of them.

Could someone shed some light as to the running costs on the 964? Just generally some pointers on things to look out for, big services and known issues associated them?

Though I love older porkers, particularly the 993, would the safest bet regarding running costs be to safe maybe 2k more and edge towards a 996?

I've never owned a 911 so I've no idea of each models gremlins, so any broad brush advice would be very well recieved..
