Just picked up the latest issue at my local newsagent.

I keep telling myself I won't buy it anymore because it's such a lightweight piece of garbage.

But this time I was lured by the "993 buyers guide" splashed on the front cover. What a load of cr@p it turned out to be. This mag has really gone down hill over the last six months, and you can tell they are really desperate to find inspiration for good features and stories.

I predict it will be under new management or cease to exist within the year.

I have to agree on the 993 buyers guide - that interested me too but it was pretty poor as Buyer's guides go ...

Good question LA, but to be honest I have no idea. If I did, then I'd probably be a highly paid magazine publisher/editor/designer. And I'm not. But I get the impression that the crew at Total 911 aren't either.

But I am a 911 owner, and a magazine reader. So if enough people like me pick up their mag and don't feel it's very good, then subscriptions aren't going to get renewed.

I have found the best Porsche magazine by a mile to be the US published Porsche - Excellence. Ever since Brit competition upped the game with colour pictures and good graphic layout to text it has improved its presentation considerably; the quality of the writing, the technical knowledge, and the welter of back-up ads is still second to none.

Agreed - I get it from Borders.

Top Gear mag is for reading? I usually look at the pictures and imagine Clarkson going "whoa", "yesss" as he pummels another supercar round an airfield.

Soovy....you wouldn't be slightly biased would you? whistle

I've also been getting T911 from issue 1....and all it's competition from their beginnings....however, I have to agree that it's gone slightly off the boil in the last few issues. IMHO GTPP on the other hand seems to have got better with Harris, Goodwin & Frankel on board!!! coffee

Yep ... I've kicked myself more than once in recent months for buying 'Total'.
911&P.W. is the best of the UK publications IMO , and I have to agree with others about 'Excellence'. It's a mag that seems to be able to mix enthusiasm with professional journalism .

Agree with last ;GTPP gone from just good fotos to some good journos with reasonably accurate articles as opposed to the howlers they used to come up with T 911 gave up fairly fast , thin content positively lightweight no sign of improvement! Frankly have nt bought it much of late to say why!

Ok, so I subscribe to GTPP and 911&PW, now I have to go find excellence as well....... I dont even own a 911 yet, and at the rate I am getting magazines I'll never be able to afford one.

Agree on Total 911, subscribed for the first year and didn't renew.

only thing i dislike about GTPP is the way almost every article mentions harris, and waxs on about him or somthing he did, said, was about to do, etc.

its like a "lets blow a feather up CH's ass fest"

other than that, its alright wink

I think you're right there Gar , to my mind it's highlighting the fact that he's the best thing there ... Dare I say it the only bit of value between those pages??
I don't rate GTPP personally , though I do buy it occasionally on the strength of Harris alone.
The current issue was a severe disappointment , especially the face lift buying guide which all but barely scratched the surface .. I certainly wouldn't feel secure looking at a 996 with that issue for reference..

The ad. for next months GTPP makes the eyes water...

I think it was T911 that recently did a Mk1 vs M2 996 GT3 review. I bought it thinin that it might be worth keeping on the bookshelf for a few years later when i might buy one. I found it to be very light reading and binned it.

I imagine that their next issue it will be similar review of regular vs clubsport GT3's and then in the issue after that, White ones versus Black! rolleyes

Phil Raby of total 911 has good past history as a knowledgeable enthusiasts, he has at least one book (964)to his name. 911 & Porsche world has Peter Morgan who certainly knows his onions & GTPP has Harris featuring more, so they have the experience, its must be down to money & drive!

The one thing that always drives me nuts is how superficial ALL the "tests" are, you could sit down & write virtually all of them from your front room without even having sat in the car. I brought a mag for a comparison between GT3's 997, 996 series 1 & series 2, total cr*p my mother could have done better & she knows nothing about cars!

If only they did the really in-depth stuff on each Porsche model, the sort of thing you simply couldn't find in a general car mag!

We can live in hope, but I'm not holding my breath!

the only car mags worth buying are evo and car...all the rest just have no substance ...pretty pictures but a real let down when it comes to content

thing is, magazines in general are loosing out big time to the 'tinternet.

what they need is real content, real exclusive, exciting reading for the new market they are not serving, the market that are going on the internet to read about stuff.

we did a hoon across europe last year, and one of the gents made an article that was supposed to be in one of the magazines mentioned.

problem is, they dont have any balls and bottled it at the last minute becuase of pressure given from the other writers.

so, other writers seen there was a new guy injecting fun, exitment, pazaz etc and saw this as a potential threat, cue gutless editor, with no balls to stand up to these fools, he pulls it on their say so.

would have been a much more interesting read than "i drove my porsche to scotland for a drive, it was fun" like they have in the mags mentioned.

obviously i didnt write any of it, I just drank too much and drove like a twunt.
