Just found this on www.speedsters.com. Chesil has been wound up and Tygan is the new company having purchased all of Chesil's assets.

I'm Tygan's PR consultant and I have a (very modest) share in the business. First things first, Tygan is not just a rebranded Chesil. Chesil ceased to exist in March and Tygan is a completely new company, with new directors and new funding. We have invested heavily in manufacturing, have a new factory and new equipment, including a new mould.

This forum is really the wrong place for Tygan to be because the company is moving away from kit cars and placing the emphasis on factory-built replicas. New models will be introduced later this year.

We're going to be on Fifth Gear on Monday night, so keep an eye out!

Yesterday (Friday) at the FoS was our first official day of trading. Here's the press release:

NEW BRITISH SPORTSCAR MANUFACTURER LAUNCHED AT GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED

A private consortium of classic sports car enthusiasts has announced the launch of Tygan Motor Company Ltd, a wholly new British manufacturer of very high quality classic replica sports cars.

The group behind Tygan consists of a number of highly successful, prominent businessmen and women, who are passionate about classic sports cars, but who also have extensive experience of running profitable businesses from a diverse range of industries.

To provide the foundation of the business, Tygan has purchased the assets from Chesil which was founded in the late 1980s, and established its reputation as a manufacturer of replicas of the 1950s Porsche 356 Speedster, based on VW Beetle components.

Tygan has immediately invested in purpose-fitted new premises and manufacturing facilities in order to more than double the output of cars per month. Tygan has also retained the staff of the old company, and supplemented these with its own board of Directors.

Tygan will initially retain production solely of the Speedster and Spyder models, although it is immediately reviewing its component suppliers and manufacturing processes and implementing ISO9000 standards in production in order to guarantee an improvement in the quality of the products.

Tygan’s Chairman is Graham Lee. Graham is an experienced Managing Director, Chief Executive and Chairman with an impeccable track record in the computing, defence, technology and manufacturing markets.

The board consists of a professional top team of experienced directors from the fields of accountancy, investment, and successful entrepreneurs.

“We are delighted to be able to announce the formation of Tygan, which will, quite simply, become the dominant supplier of classic sports car replicas in the UK and Europe,” says Graham Lee. “In keeping with my fellow Directors I am as passionate about classic sports cars as I am about building successful businesses. All my fellow board members are successful business people who have a thorough understanding of business dynamics, marketing and manufacturing. Tygan will create a new breed of timeless motoring and will have an over-riding emphasis on quality. Everything that emerges from this factory will have been through rigorous processes, will carry our reputation and will be worthy of our badge.

“Tygan will migrate a cottage industry into a professional automotive manufacturer. We will add to the product portfolio with the addition of further models, building on the heritage of sports cars that maintain the customer’s desire own a timeless classic that makes a clear statement of individuality,” Graham concludes.

For further information go to www.tygan.com.

You only had to ask!

Price depends on spec. A fairly standard spec (2+2, new 1800cc flat four air cooled, twin carb, independent rear suspension, body colour of your choice, leather colour of your choice) is £28,750...or £25,750 if you can get an order in within 14 days and mention my name. Three months delivery. 12 months gurantee including parts and labour (naturally extendable!).

Additional extras include a 2.0l twin carb, which is significantly pokier. This is an extra £1,000 (requires an additional oil cooler).

Very interesting news, but are the new models going to be replicas of something, or entirely new designs wth a retro flavour?

Are you completely abandoning the kit aspect? A great shame if you are IMO. Saw the stand at FoS, was tempted to have a closer look but the 2 inch thick layer of mud covering the lower half of my trousers suggested I may not have been that welcome biggrin

The next car will be a 550 Spyder replica and the following one likely to be an RS60 replica. All cars produced by Tygan will be replicas.

The kit aspect won't be completely abandoned, although emphasis will be placed on creating factory-built cars. You should have come over - we all had mud cladding on our trousers too...

Had I known there was a PH'er involved I would of, shame. Glad you aren't completely abandoning the kit side though - the connection with Chisel should aid a bit from that side with their excellent reputation.

Saw the piece on 5th gear last night, but no mention of Tygan. They still called it a Chesil. I'm guessing someone didn't tell them Chesil is no more.....

I did tell them, I agreed the script with the producer, but for some reason they chose to go their own way...
