Fair enough, so long as it doesn't make it's way onto company cars as well.

An inevitable development unfortunately. It wont stop VWM driving eratically though, eating his big mac and chatting on his phone, overloading the van.. or tailgating in traffic in the rain, having a tommy tank then falling asleep at the wheel while he tootling along the M3 with his foot welded to the floor having to pay no attention to his speed.

It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. Just more things to overtake each other with a 0.1mph differental and cause increased congestion.

They may save on fuel costs though...

Yes, a good point.....I guess that motorways will become blocked with trucks and White Van Man taking five miles to overtake each other. They should go one further and Ban white Vans and trucks from overtaking anything that is moving.

Mind you, it doesn't say what speed they are going to be limited to.

I can see the WVM lobby demanding a 100mph restrictor.

indeed - biggest problem is that WVM is allowed in lane 3 even with a limiter - anything limited should not be allowed in lane 3.

In fact, anything that can't do 130 shouldn't be allowed in lane 3

Cum of it, or should it be come orf it, we can't all drive TeeVeeYahs. Some don't have a choice of company "cahs".

Lets face it half of these poor bu**ers driving white vans don't have a choice of colour!

Jeez I suppose you drive along eating eating cucumber sandwiches with the speedo 1 mph below the NSL? Big Mac? Sorry Ronnie - he's probably pi**ed and on his way home from Wevverspoonz!

Nevertheless, this is a serious matter, why can't they paint these vans that sort of TeeVeeYah purple colour?

And wots a "tommy tank" anyway? Sounds rude to me.

Stroof, just realised that I could have highlighted the quote bit, ah well back to cleaning the graffiti - or is it grafitti - orf of the sh!t on the back of me van.

1. Thin ende of wedge
2. Dangerous - driver boredom
3. Dangerous - overtake...need more power...none available...
4. Congestion - motorway...overtake very slowly
5. Driver frustration

Remember speaking to a guy who worked for a US company in this country. All there vehicles were not limited but had recording equipment fitted. This recorded both speed and G-Forces, ie breaking and acceleration forces. If they regularly exceeded set thresholds then somone would come and have a stern word. Now where's the fun in that....

I can see these limiters being taken off when they see that the loads are taking longer to get delivered.

also i think the main wear and tear will come from lobbing the things round corners at silly speeds and generally just abusing the vehicles - regardless of the speed involved!

a mate of mine is a WVM and his driving shows no mechanical sympathy whatsoever!

Wonder if Leyland Auto Electrical will reconsider when one of its employees gets killed when he can't accelerate out of trouble and the Coroner blames the limiter.........and the lawyers 'help' the bereaved family?

Big bucks, not covered by insurance, methinks.

I completely agree. Most delivery companies make their money by putting as many drops on their routes as possible therefore pressuring the drivers to drive quickly to fit them all in within the alloted time. If the drivers have their speeds limited they will be unable to make as many drops in a day therefore leading to a loss of profits. Suddenly the limiters will disapear.

Well you can just bet they'll drive on the limiter whether it's a 20, 30, 40 or 70 limit. It's all a load of cr@p to try and save some money as WV's tend to use alot more fuel at 80mph than at 70mph (a friend of mine owns a courier company and is always trying to explain this to anyone who will listen ). You can bet the driver doesn't car how much it costs him to get from A-B. Just how long.

Let me turn this around. I reckon the whole idea of fitting a speed and rev limit system to WVM's van is a good one.

Why?

1) WVM does not own the van. If he did he would not fit the system. If he owns the van he's got every right to do anything legal he wants to it - that's fine. If he does NOT own the van - then the legal owner has the right to do anything they want to it - including fitting limiting systems.

2) Company owners will NOT go to the expense of fitting such a system unless their drivers, as a group, make it necessary. i.e. If WVM does not drive like a t**t then who'd waste money trying to prevent him from doing something he doesn't do? Nope the limiters are going to get fitted when that "Driven Well? No? Then Call 0800 XXX XXX" hotline starts to ring off the hook.

3) As a fuel saving measure if it works I'd be surprised.

I know that limiting acceleration and speed does not a good driver make. But it might reduce the impact of a really crap one.

Now..having said all that. Why not stuff all that fancy electronics and just fit a useless engine?

If the van spends alot of it's time on the motorway it can make a huge difference. Even 2mpg improvement over 50,000 miles a year is a pretty good saving.

I fit tracking devices and a lot of them are covert installs where the driver is not told that the system is being fitted , i have found some good places to mount the ariels and if you wanted to cover them you would be driving around with your van covered front to rear with bacofoil which would raise suspicion

Sure a few well aimed dinks on a repmobile or wall or up a kerb will dislodge somthing important to stop it working. Intermittant faults are hard to prove....(white van driver)
