slicks for beginners

I am just starting out drag racing and need some advice.

Firstly can you just buy drag tyres using your existing tyre measurements eg 205/45/15 ?

And secondly will I just snap CV joints etc if I upgrade to slicks ?

And finally how much quicker would a car that can do low 12s on road tyres be on slicks
