Not starting....
Discussion
Self explanatory, really....
Tried to start yesterday and nothing happened.
Assumed it was flat battery as this happens sometimes as it doesn't get used much due to financial woes.
Battery now charged and still nothing.
Tried rocking as my starter sticks occasionally, still nothing.
checked for obvious loose wires, nothing.
When I turn the key, I hear the sound of what I 'think' is the fuel pump priming, but no more - it isn't even trying to turn over.
Any ideas before I call out breakdown recovery tomorrow morning?
(bear in mind I'm not mechanically minded at all)
thanks

Had a similar problem not too long back. This was the topic that I started which basically ends with me hitting the starter motor with a trolley jack handle. However I have since replaced the starter motor!

Hope it helps.

Do you hear the 'click' from the selonoid on the starter? If no click then there may be a loose connection on the smaller leads. If you hear a click but the starter doesn't turn then you may be down on power or have a stuck starter or starter fault as already suggested.

When you turn the key, after the pump primes, and you try to start the car, does the dash lights dim?
Mine had a similar problem when left for a period of time which was effectively the same problem as the hot-start problem.
After regular running its good as gold again.
Personally i'd give the starter a decent 'tap' , check the cabling for any deterioration and then for the sake of £15 fit the hot-start kit which gives a more direct power source to the starter.
If all that doesnt help it may be time to think about starter motors (worst case scenario)
but always try the easiest and cheapest first in my book

Thanks. but there's no click - I usually listen for that for the starter motor sticking...
I already have the hot-start mod.
Most probably a fuse or relay fault as no powers getting to the selonoid. You need to tap/jiggle a few things I already have the hot-start mod.

Can you hear the 'hot start' relay click when you try to start the car? If not, it could be the immobiliser or the wiring from the ignition switch.
If you can hear it, check for a voltage on the 'heavy' wire to the relay.
If the battery's been discharged, make sure it's fully charged, disconnect it for a few seconds then reconnect it smartly: a drop in voltage can upset the immobiliser, this ought to reset it.
