Had a new clutch on 3 years ago (20000 miles ago) due to fingers breaking. The symtoms were as follows:- When engine off I could select gears. When engine on, I couldnt select any at all.

Tonight, had exactly the same problems, so I thought the fingers had gone again. However, when I came to show my son what was up, it was ok. I've been for a drive and all had been ok. Any ideas what was the problem? Oil level ok. No oil leaks.

Having a similar problem on our car. After giving it a bit of stick up the A1 go round a roundabout quickly and after changing down a gear unable to reselect. Pump the clutch once more and am able to reselect. Happened twice now on the same roundabout? Checked fluid for leaks and level all ok. Bled off fluid and now awaiting it to occur again. Clutch hoses are not fouling or on a hot surface. Sugestions please. Clutch 18 months old with <5k on it.

I've got the same problem too. New clutch about 500 miles ago + le-mans trip. I was thinking it was the seals in the master cylinder?

I had a problem selecting gears on a 500 mike clutch - turned out thee friction plate had failed - material on half of on plate had ripped away - clutch eventually failed entirely.

The bit thats puzzling me is no gears at all, and then back to normal as if nothing had happened.

I had this on Sunday......engine off...fine...engine on nothing.....then after a while all fine. It's the master cylinder seals apparently. When you pump the clutch pressure builds and it's fine but then you stop or park you can't select a gear. Mine is in this weekend to get fixed

Does your pedal stay to the floor when this problem occurs?

I left for Le Man early Friday morning, got 2 miles down the road and lost the clutch. The pedal went to the floor as normal but didn't return to the up position. I had to start her in gear and bunny hop until running, got her home and then found pedal returned! I'm thinking diaphragm spring fingers, perhaps lost too many now to be reliable.

No. Everything was fine before....and everything was fine after. The only thing that was different was that I couldnt get it in gear due to the clutch not releasing. Pedal was normal.

Just been to try it again...all ok. Will take it out in a bit 4 a couple of hours.

Clutch pedal behaves normally, and returns every time. Spotted a small amount of black floaters in the fluid both in the master cylinder and in the fluid when bled so assume the seals are on the way out. I just can't understand occasional the loss of gears when down shifting, more so at the same roundabout. Will book into the garage when I get a chance as working away at the moment.
Anyone any experience of the modded slave cylinders available?
Also anyone know of gear selection problems on the T5 box?
