Hi
Just joined up having acquired my first Porsche - an '01 996 C4.
Love the car, even if it is somewhat ahead of my current driving abilities!
Couple of questions, if anyone can offer advice
1. Rattles from door airbags - anything to worry about?
2. The car has an Alpine satnav/CD/DVD player fitted. This includes an iPod connection that appears in the central glove box. It's got one of those slidey-out tilt touch screens that are exciting for 30 seconds then really annoying as you have to manipulate both screen and remote control to get it to work. I'd like to replace this with something "better" for both satnav and iPod playing - any suggestions?
3. Stone chips on bonnet - I'd like these sorted and then considering getting getting those clear coatings applied. Any opinions, recommendations, or horror stories

are you sure the rattles are from the door/airbags etc? If you have a sunroof these tend to rattle a lot.
Stereo - the Becker units have an OEM look - and you can get satnav/bluetooth versions - i think there is a nice long thread on them, a search for 'becker' should turn it up (and i might have that old one off you if your selling
)
Stone chips... you'll probably need a front end respray rather than touching up, they do get a lot of chips, part of the course unfortunatley.

Welcome!
Stone chips, if they are bad you should have a re spray yes and to prevent in the future you can use helicopter tape to stop stones chipping the paint.
If you need any help on the driving side, give me a shout

Welcome!
I had a stupendously annoying rattle from my passenger door in my 02 996 when I 1st got it. I thought it was the airbag also, when I took the door apart it was actually a loose screw within the door that was causing the noise.
I think I found a how-to on rennlist for digging into the door, can't recall the specifics of the operation but I don't think it took me long!

Hi, and welcome. I am relatively new to here too...and a fellow St Albans member. Will have to keep my eyes open for you.
I have recently fitted a Becker Cascade into my 996 C4S and love it! AFAIK Becker make the original Porsche radios and so it looks like the original. It has Sat nav built in (only on the small screen) which works surprisingly well, is iPod ready and has Bluetooth connectivity for your mobile phone.

I would highly recommend it!
Enjoy the new motor!

Either go the whole hog on the new stereo, and get a good big screen fitted:

Or just learn how to use your existing stereo. I find it incredible that you have to use the remote as well as the screen - its all there on the screen in some shape or form. Just have a play around

Seriously - you do have to use the remote...things like the destination selection only seem to work via it. I'll have another look though.
Cheers for the replies so far!
My car is Lapis Blue - and I think the previous owner was also near St Albans, judging by what "home" was set to on the sat nav!
