Popping on Overrun (nice!)

When I was leaving Le Mans centre on our way home on Sunday evening we were following a Tuscan down a hill and it was popping away on overrun, nice and loudly (sorry didn't take note of reg etc. to identify you).

Anyway, Several hours later back in England I made a discovery which has put a smile on my face ever since, and can't believe none of you have told me about it already, or maybe not all car setup's do this, anyway:

I discovered how to get my car to pop and burble extra on overrun. Basically induce lots of engine braking overrun by coming off the throttle at medium/high revs and then gentle press the throttle slightly and I guess it lets a small amount of fuel through without burning properly and pop's and bang's resulting in a big grin!

Now I need a noiser exhaust system or a long tunnel on a hill and i'll be even happier!

Just thought I'd share this with you all. You may have already discovered this, but if like me you have achieved pop's and bangs on overrun, but only every so often and not on demand. Don't know if all V8's will be set up this way...

I discovered this in my old Westfield. Soon found the Chim does it too... However, I've just fitted Offord's cherry bomb exhaust and now the overrun rumbles are to die for ....

... especially next to high walls and narrow streets!

Yep, i do this trick too!

yeah i got offords exhaust too, sometimes if your really lucky you can get a distinct "snap" sound that you know is a big fat flame

Pete, I thought you needed a trick exhaust to get pops & bangs? is yours standard?

I was doing this on my first ever Chim test drive last weekend, well I managed to get it to burble nicely but no pops & bangs. It has convinced me I need a Chim, just need to do a bit more work on the budget.

No you just need a car with f*** all silenceri was thinking off taking out the exhaust y piece then i would get pops bangs and the flames,it may set the bonnet on fire but who cares

Yep - mine's standard. I'm not saying it sounds like fireworks going off, but it definately works. Less exhaust silencing would definately make it very addictive.

What you need to do is decat and add cherrybombs, then you get the full firework effect... Sounds like a small war out the back on the overrun!

Very nearly right....full decat and straight thru pipes...cherry bombs still have baffles in them!!!

Oh - and deaf neighbours are a bonus...!

I had one neighbour complain when i took my car OFF the road...he said normally i woke him up at 7:30 on the dot and because it was off the road he had got up late a few times...!!!
