recommended motorsport mag

What is your favourite motorsport mag?

The 2 that are easily available in the high street for me are Motosport and Autosport - was wondering if PH'ers preferred one over the other?

Or are they both cr*p and I should be looking elsewhere.

Motorsport is a superb read. Great articles every month, but it doesn't contain much contemporary stuff - though that isn't in its remit. For someone like me who, despite being only 34, thinks that motor racing's best days are long behind us, it's a brilliant publication.

I started reading Autosport when I was about 8 and then subscribed for years, but these days I just can't be bothered with it. Too much F1 and too many sensationalist headlines. It lacks the substance it used to have and reads like half the scribes are just journalists - rather than enthusiasts. Roebuck remains as brilliant as ever and a shining star amidst the fog of mediocrity, but even he isn't enough to make me part with my money these days. And Mark Hughes seems to annoy the heck out of me somehow: might be his glasses...

They're all boocks as far as I'm concerned - except F1 Racing, because of the features.

I only use the internet now - Grandprix.com, crash.net and itv-f1.com mostly.

F1 Racing gets repetitive after 2-3 issues. There's only so many times they can have an article titled 'Why so-and-so is so fast!'

I don't mind Autosport for the club/national racing coverage (although some still complain that it is not enough).

"Motorsport News" is worth checking out if you are interested in more national series of racing, rallying or indeed other events like hillclimbing, trialing, sprinting and road rallies.

To be found with other newspaper style periodicals like Daltons Weekly and Motorcycle News.

Racecar Engineering is sometimes a good read. Their recent pieces on KERS was interesting, as was the article on radial dampers. I like F1 Racing FWIW, but tend to agree that aside from Hughes, Roebuck and Gary Anderson, Autpsort's articles lack any depth or real insight.

Not so much a motor sport magazine, but I have to say that one of the best reads each month is Octane. A high quality monthly which covers all apsects of motoring both on and off track. They manage to get their hands on some of the finest motors to shoot and road test. Interesting columns too from the likes of Jay Leno, Moss and Rowan Atkinson and Nick Mason to name a few.

Ultimately its all a mater of personal preference of course but for me "Motorsport Magazine" is the class of the field for an interesting limited BS read. This months Circuit driver has a very good article in it by Phil Bennett but is otherwise going slowly down the standard car magazine hill at the moment. It should change back to an interesting read once its ownership has settled.

Full Thottle Magazine showed great potential but has been hit by circulation politics which is a shame.

Not taking anything away from Octane, but this was all done years ago with SuperClassics/ SuperCar Classics - same type of format, Nick Mason featuring large too.
