I am considering getting a Mkv Gti and have just read on Evo site that the headlights turn on at 87mph+, is this correct?.

I certainly don't want to be advertising on my daily commute that I may have 'strayed' above 87 or be seen as a 'lights on, out of my way type', can this be disabled?

They only work when the light switch is set to Auto.

You need to be doing over that speed for a few minutes for them to come on.

This can be disabled via VAG COM if you know someone with the lead and software.

No problem really! Staying below 87 mph might be though... biggrin

The GTI is a very fun and practical car to have. Very quick yet relatively economical and by far the best looking Mk V Golf out there.

Thanks for the reply was concerned when I read it as its replacement for my company car so put some miles in. Looking forward to being back in a VW, apart from the Mrs polo which is also going, the last time I was an owner was the 90's.

in reality the auto lights are so sensitive, they will be on during the day anyhow ( i know from experience, just watch some of them) so it's impossible to tell what speed a cars been doing from the auto lights on feature.
