ot: silver on black plates ok?
Discussion
Apologies for the OT but I feel more home on the Porsche thread.
I saw a gorgeous riviera blue 997 C4S at the chunnel on the way back from Le Mans - and it had the old style black plates with silver letters.
I think this would look great on my white Porsche but I keep reading that the car had to be made no later than 1973 - is this still true?
I've also seen other photos of cars (e.g. Juan Barazi's Enzo) with the same type of plate so was wondering if the law still applys.

Yeah, pre 73 only.
If you run the black plates you risk getting tugged by the cops who will give you a £30 fine I think, and a short period to get some proper ones on it.
Get caught more than once and they can confiscate your private plate.
You'll need to find a moody plate maker as well.
As far as I know it has to be registered before then yes, maybe he is just being illegal?

A mate of mine has a beautiful black AMV8 with black plates (looks stunning). However, he keeps a set of proper plates in the car and the one time he was pulled he claimed to be coming back from a magazine photo shoot - showed his real plates and said he didn't have time to put them back on - no probs and the plod let him go.
If you get pulled its £30 fine (no points) and you may be asked to prove you've switched them back.
