Can anyone help? I have recently purchased an 06 F430 (Coupe, Manual). Am loving the car, and cannot believe how much fun it is after the AMV8! The previous owner did something to the exhaust which I have not yet worked out. He told me he did the mods himself, and they were easy and quick to do. I think it is using all 4 pipes all the time, but not sure. He reckons he did it to make it more driveable, faster, and make the power delivery more even. I haven't driven enough 430s for long enough to be able to assess what he says. All I know is that my ears start to bleed on the motorway at the legal limit(!). Anyone got any ideas? Thinking of booking it in and having it put back to the factory settings, as I am about to do a 3000 mile trip to France & Italy, and it is particularly bad at cruising speeds. Not just loud (which I wouldn't mind), but a frequency that seems to go right through you!

not sure if this is the case with the 430, but with the 360 you could 'wire' the valves open so all 4 pipes were used even from low revs/low speed.

same for the 430 anyone?

Slightly off-topic, but I wonder how it compares to a Tubi/Larini/Capristo?

Yeah, it's a manual fix/mod to permanently open the exhaust butterfly(?) valves as opposed to them opening >3k RPM.

I'd search on FChat, I'm sure I remember reading the step by step process to do it, so I suppose it's just reversed.

You might want to also have a look at the Aston forum as it's a bity similar to the AMV8 set up.

On the 360 you remove the panels either side of the rear of the engine bay and find the wires going to the solenoids that actuate the exhaust valves and just unclip them to leave the valves open permanently.

There's a thread here on Club Scuderia with pics.

Nah, even easier on the Aston, just remove a fuse (no 22 ISTR).

What other manufacturers do this? I know Nissan do with the Skyline...

I've done it on my E36 328 sport coupe. There's a plug under the carpet in the boot that you can pull - it leaves the exhaust valves open permanently, rather than >4k revs.

Simply look into the engine bay and you will notice a vacuum valve either side of the exhaust toward the rear of the car. The rubber pipes are disconnected from the valves and will be tucked away on the rear grille, simply remove whatever has been inserted into the vacuum pipes (usually a self-tapper screw, to stop the engine warning light coming on) and push the pipes back on. There's no need to undo the securing clips on the rubber pipes!

This will keep the car quieter at tick-over and up to about 3500 rpm, but the valves will open thereafter and still make your ears bleed!

If you have any difficulty, PM me and I'll send you my phone number and talk it through with you, it'll take you about 60 seconds to sort!
