I am no fan of Silverstone (Racing at the International track tomorrow - but only cos our club does not go to the cool tracks!) but when you hear "The government has no ownership of Silverstone so to make financial contributions would be illegal state aid," the representative explained.
You have to wonder - christ all the new places over the last few year just pile monet - it does not matter from where - just get it done.
Pity Donnington is not big enough - but the main point here is the total lack of the "goverment giving a toss". MInd you I am no fan of the BRDC wingers either - they reall wind me up with their constant moaning!

Perhaps if you were privy to more of the facts about what has been going on over the years you might have a little more sympathy with their situation. Some might say that if you were constantly having Bernie taking a chunk out of your arse and a government who are delighted to take the tax benefit from the massive financial input into the region/country on the back of Motor Racing but aren't willing to give anything back, you might have a little justification to complain.
Don't forget that it is many of those 'whingers' who stopped TW from leaving the club in a potentially disastrous position which could have lost the circuit, who stopped Ms Foulston from getting her claws in and who saw the flaws in the St Mowlen deal.
The last thing that anyone wants is for any of the circuit’s land to be sold off for Resi development as sure as eggs the next thing will be the noise nutters getting their claws in here as well.

I know Brands is just a knightmare with access - but ha so was Silverstone for years. The cars are like dinky toys now so it is not such big deal to run them on tighter (but very good and up and down track) ala Donners and Brands (Full).
Just my opinion - I know what you are saying on tax the industry but put nothing back - they are just 2 faced bunch of muppets - maybe the Tories when they get in will think differently.
When I were a little lad I loved Brands GPs far more than Silverstone. The thought of the GP going there(or Donnington) is great, but the fact is neither have anything like the infrastructure needed to hold a round of the Max and Bernie show, even with significant financial input.
The BRDC has done a very good job IMO in 99% of that it has done with the cuircit given the topography and you don't hear too many complaining about the views at LM which are not that much different in track space visible from one spot (unless you are looking directly up the Mausanne (sp) (
))TBH with Silverstone TV and radio and the big screens I think that the there is more than enough opportunity for spectators to see the whole race unfold.

Heard it was 43 - but max on grid is 42 so more than that are reserves - but likely all will get in as no way will that lot get through practice! My class is HUGE - EEK.If I were paying to attend the GP as an ordinary (non-cooperate/flying in on race day type) MOP I would honestly go about once every 2 or 3 years. I would camp out from the Thursday and leave on the Monday morning (Sunday evening if I were not intending to sup a few bevies on race day).
I would plan to watch either at Becketts or along the Vale (towards Club) and would make sure I had a good sight of one of the big screens.
Anyone who loves F1 should try to go every few years to soak in the vibe, the real sounds and the atmosphere. On the off years I would watch it on the TV.
The Crowds can be a PITA, especially if you are working there, but they are one of the main factors in giving the place atmosphere.
It’s a little like asking if you would like to see you’re favourite band live at a massive gig or buy the CD. Why not do both

Think my problem is that I go to these places alot and like the laid back atmosphere at clubby meets. So apying loads for more aggro and less access and seeing car fy my at warp speed seems crazy. Would rather watch on TV. I'd rather go to MotoGP (clashes this weekend and FOS - just had to turn down a VIP ticket), but prefer this sorts of things (Revival) - modern F1 leave me cold - but can't stop myself watching it on TV. I enjoy it more if recorded (if clashes with meeting I am at, as I do not have to see through all the guff and lack of overtaking).
