..(this bit removed biggrin). However, I have tracked down the reason for my not-opening boot to the actual elcetic actuator mechanisum in the boot...Where on earth can I locate a replacement?

In addtion, it burnt out because I replaced the steering column switch with one that stays on unless you trun it off...where can I locate a proper one of these (ie that self cancels and fits in the hole without fouling on the gubbins under the steering column cover)?

It looks like a standard switch available from most electronics suppliers to me on my V8S (I worked in electronics in a previous life).
Try Maplin www.maplin.co.uk
You want a non latching push to make switch, its sounds like you have a non latching push to break.

OR it could be that you have used the wrong terminals if it has 3 terminals.

If it has 3 terminals one is the common (connected to the power, possibly marked COM), one has power removed when you press it (this may be marked NC - normally closed) and the other has power applied when you press it (this may be marked NO - normally open). If this is the type of switch you have it doesn't matter which way round the wires go as long as you get the right 2 terminals, you need to use the Common and Normally open terminals.

If it only has 2 terminals you have the wrong kind of switch - you have a push to break if the power stays on till you press it.

Hope this helps.

Good job it didn't overheat and set your car alight ! yikes

Chris

I don't think you can assume that a 2-pin switch is push-to-break. You can get 2-pin push-to-make switches too.

I was going on what was said above - that it doesn't turn off unless the switch was pressed.
Hopefully if you read my first reply in conjunction with the original post it all makes sense!

Chris

Peter I've just edited my original reply to make it clearer.

Thank you for the input. - I know that the switch I have is wrong as it is a simple rocker switch which I fitted when I couldnt get the right one in a hurry. The local electical people say the correct one would be special order and so = mucho denero. Are there any other sources for something that would fit and work OK?

The other big part of the question is how I locate a replacement for the actuator fitted in the boot. This is the bit that burnt out. - Who do I contact???

This one is the same as the one fitted to my V8S.

You will have to solder the terminals though.

For the solenoid I haven't a clue - have you removed it ?
There's a good chance its donated from something else - put any part numbers you can find into google.
