Don't mean to sound dim, but how different are chim engines to standard rover units. I only ask cos I've stuck a rod through the block on my 4.0 and can't seem to find an engine anywhere so I'm thinking about getting a standard rover engine and modding it myself.

They are all based on Rover units, TVR used to fit their own cam and some cars have ported heads but unless you've got a 5ltr then its pretty standard rover

You looking for anything special, or specially cheap? If you're just looking for a new engine, any of the RV8 specialists will supply a suitable engine off the shelf. It needn't be *very* expensive, for example you could get a standard 3.9 short engine and reuse most of your existing setup, or for a very cheap upgrade get a short 4.6. If you have deeper pockets then you can take the opportunity to spec up something a bit special.

I've seen a 4.2 lump that I reckon could be quite nice with a bit of fettling. Thinking along the lines of stage 3 heads and lightened flywheel to start with

You'll be starting with a flywheel a lot lighter than the RR standard, and I assume you'll be aiming to reuse the flywheel, clutch, front cover, dizzy etc. Be very cautious about going any lighter than that, because it's very easy to lighten a flywheel but very easy to lose your legs if you get it wrong.

If your interested I have a 4.0 long engine (later cross-bolted type with large bearings) and seperately a set of 4.6 piston & rods and a brand-new 4.6 crankshaft. Also have a set of Group 'A' adjustable steel rocker arms aswell.

Please email me through my profile.

Cheers

Is the block ok on the 4.0?
How much do you want for the crank?
Again, mail me if you would rather.

I've bought the engine I was originally looking at. It's time to start tweaking it. It's a standard 4.2 out of a range rover. Can anybody recommend any good suppliers of tuning parts that don't cost the earth.
