I know this is very subjective, but how many miles should I expect to get out of a set of tyres on my 996tt.

Road driving only so far. Lots of fairly agressively driven A and B roads. Some motorway cruising. Some intown crawling.

The reason I ask is not for budgeting purposes, but more because I'm a numpty and probably wouldn't spot a worn tyre in a.... erm... skip full of worn tyres.

I've done 6,000 miles on the same tyres that came with the car. Should I be paying a visit to my friendly local tyre shop?

Cheers,
Gixxer

The important thing to be aware of is that the tyres wear on the inside due to the geometry. For rear tyres I get anything from 5k to 8k miles, fronts are lasting between 11k and 14k miles. Mainly fast road use.

A fair point. I am much more attentive to tyre wear on the bikes than I am with cars - although I often switch bikes before I need new tyres!

On power loss. The Cerb definitely felt faster in a straight line, but way slower on the twisties (you can throw the 996tt much more aggressively into corners than you can with the Cerb).

Cheers.

So far my running costs on the 996tt are less than the Cerb. I've have the Turbo for 9 months now and have had to do nothing other than buy petrol and some oil. In 9 months I would have expected to have had the Cerb in a few times to fix various niggles etc. My annual Cerb serviving bills were never under £1000, and I expect the 996tt to be about the same.

Fuel economy is probably better in the 996tt too. I get around 20mpg on average, and whilst I never measured it on the Cerb (the Porsche computer tells me exactly what it is), I would have expected it to have been greedier on fuel.

Hope that helps.
