How to get off 'the line' quick..
Discussion
I'm off to SantaPod next week, long story short, promised a mate who's been building his (B5) S4 into something special (480bhp/500lbs) a match up.. Not wanting to let loose on the public highway I thought Santapod would be the perfect place.
I realise pulling away on a 1/4 mile run puts alot of strain on your car (996TT), also mines mine remapped etc so even more strain.
Can anyone give advice on the best way to start your 1/4 mile run?

In most cars I have raced 4000 rpm and dump the clutch. I do not mean side step it just bang it in quick. Hope this helps.
In my TT (stock) I find about this exact method works very well. Espcially to upset Ferrari 360 owners
4k rpm and let up the clutch very quickly. You will get the smell of burning clutch though, so probably not to be done too many times unless you have deep pockets. I have only done it once and I don't think I will do it quite that aggressively again.
But for those TT owners out there who haven't I think you should, just once. The car is phenomenal the way all 4 wheels rip into the tarmac and literally catapult you forward. I thought there would be some wheel slip, but there is none at all. It really just accelerated stupidly hard. Amazing car!

GuyVert, let me know when you're going and I'll head out there too. I was there a couple weeks ago and was destroying everything out there (there wasn't much). If you dump the clutch at 4000 rpm you'll get massive wheel hop which is not a good thing. Honestly I found that the best short times (1.8x 60') were had by slipping the clutch out at 3000 or so and then getting into it once you establish traction. Lowering the tire pressures to 25psi all around helps as well, and avoid the water at all cost.

Before I turned my track car into a manual I did one sprint as an auto and blew everyone away to 64ft by holding the car full throttle on the brakes on the line.... then light goes green, lift off the brake and gone.....
Obviously not good for the transmission but it was coming out anyway
Now it's 3700RPM and let it in progressively until its in and away you go, if you sidesep it will slip badly and go nowhere, although it not a Porsche!

I have once and then only by accident done a real sling shot get-away. I pulled up at the lights in the 'wrong lane' only to see a supra turbo thing in the correct lane. 3500rpm, off the side of the clutch and the car literally exploded off the line. No wheelspin, bang, second gear and gone. Never done it since. Made a sound like a shot gun going off. Scared the sh*t out of me as i'd only had the car two weeks.
